New Mexico

This is a real testament to the importance of a head coach if there was any doubt.

Mendenhall has New Mexico headed in the right direction in his first year there. Sawvel has nearly destroyed everything Bohl built in a single offseason.

I doubt this game will even be close. I think New Mexico wins this by 21+.

The only wildcard is the team’s response to Anderson - assuming the staff is smart enough to discard Svoboda and the two qb system. If they don’t, which is highly likely considering this band of morons, we lose by 14+. If they do, it is a UNM -3 kinda game.

I am speculating that this game may be much like the San Jose game but higher scoring and fewer TO’s by UNM.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it was 38-28 UNM.

Until Saturday, I hadn't seen Anderson play except for a screen pass in the Air Force game. I was very impressed how he put the ball right on the receiver. I know the passes were mostly short outs, but watching a receiver catch the ball in stride is not something we've seen a lot. Yet Sawvel didn't commit to a qb after the game. After all, if Svoboda hits the portal for greener pastures ( I've heard USC is unhappy with Miller Moss), then all hope is lost for successive 1-11 seasons.

Kaden Anderson to start. Harrison Waylee will play.

Sawvel says ‘Svoboda hasn’t lost his job.’ So presumably both QBs to receive playing time.

Alex Brown’s career over with broken leg.

Braden Siders is out (undisclosed). Siders is interesting considering every other player who was injured was specifically indicated as injury.

I hate that Brown has a broken leg. I feel bad for the young man.

Did he say if he is still a horseshit head coach? Or has he changed?

Sawvel was a good defensive coordinator and likely will be again. He reminds me of Wade Phillips or Vic Fangio, really good coordinators who were not good head coaches. He is obviously aware that his job is on thin ice with only thing that might save him from being let go (probably only after another losing season because of the buyout) is beating CSU. I think he is good guy but is in the wrong job.

If this is the case (and I agree with you), doesn't that land at the feet of the person who put him in the job...aka Tom Burman?

I'm not sure how Burman survives this hire. It was such a monumental failure that there is no way to excuse it.

Too little too late - Anderson in, but after 8 games? WTF. Even if we happen to pull together with Anderson and Waylee - our season is a failure.
If you look at our schedule - we had the weakest conference schedule of any team in the MWC. We have already played the worst MWC teams. After New Mexico, we get buried 3 consecutive weeks. Although I think New Mexico handles us easily too.

Agree completely - I guess I should have stated it as "even if we pull it together, and are competitively losing (instead of head-scratching losing)"...

I am still dumbfounded, four days later, they let Anderson march us down the field only to put in svboda back in at the 5 yard line. Sawvell rides the short bus to work. In fact, that's part of his guaranteed compensation, the use of a short school bus for transportation.

If King hadn't gotten hurt and with the knowledge of Anderson starting, I would have disagreed with New Mexico handling us. Now, I'm not sure. Waylee playing is big and I think he's as important to our offense as Jeanty is to his. For the ones who don't understand, this does not equate Jeanty to Waylee but their importance to the team. Passer who can complete 60% and Waylee against a bad team? I'd bet on us.

I think you are underestimating the systemic issues that are present in the Wyoming football program right now. Little did we know it, but this terrible season was our fate as soon as Sawvel was hired in December 2023. You could see and feel an immediate change in the ASU game to open the season. We didn't just get our asses kicked. We got our asses kicked and didn't seem to care one bit. Things got tough and we had absolutely no response.

Sure, a couple better players at key individual positions might help a little, but it isn't saving this team by any means. Mendenhall will coach circles around Sawvel. If we can keep it a three score game or less, I'll be surprised.

I just have to agree with RealUW unfortunately. The problems with the team are systemic that come from coaching. Plugging a real good player like Waylee into a bad offensive system might result in a few more points but I don’t see it changing the dynamic. The defense has undoubtedly taken a step back this year and probably a bigger step back next year. I really hope I’m wrong but I’ll be surprised if we cover the current 7.5 point spread this weekend. I’m expecting a 38-27 type ‘high’ scoring game which we haven’t really seen in a while.
