New Mexico Visits Laramie

As much as I want to think this will be a cake walk for the Cowboys I keep remembering that the Lobos only win last season was at our expense... I hope to God history does not repeat itself.

I really see Wyo running away with this one. No I'm not being cocky either. They will be playing pissed that they lost last year to this team.

I expected a blowout of Weber and it didn't happen. I will not chalk this one up until we have soundly beaten these guys. The team is showing up, but they need to keep the intensity and destroy this team.

If we are capable of destroying New Mexico, I certainly hope we don't do it out of respect and class. 3-4 touchdowns max.

UNM's fan base have always been good to the Pokes. I don't remember the details now, but it must have 2 or 3 years ago we had an event down there and played them in basketball, and afterwards their fan base put on brown and gold and came and supported us in the New Mexico Bowl (at least this is what I think happened).

I'd much rather see us show some class than behave like that ass hat Bronco Mendenhall.

Yeah, the fans down there are good people in general. I know of a few Lobos fans that wore brown for that game, and even though it wasn't necessarily actual Wyoming clothing, they did cheer for us as loud as if they had been real Pokes fans.

Game of the year on Saturday. I hate the thought of having to beat the sheep to go bowling.

Although I am happy for the Pokes to go to ANY bowl, I would much rather prefer the New Mex Bowl than Hawaii or Independence. Shreveport is a joke city to fly into. Tickets will be more than flying to Hawaii. Just for the fans, New Mex makes sense.

Here is how I see it playing out:
1-TCU
Wins out
Conf 7-0, Overall 10-2

2-Boise State
Wins out
Conf 6-1, Overall 11-1

3-Wyoming
Beats New Mex and CSU, loses to BSU
Conf 5-2, Overall 8-4 (Wow, I will eat crow now. I didn’t see this coming)

4-San Diego State
Beats UNLV and Fresneck State, loses to BSU
Conf 4-3, Overall 8-4

5-Air Force
Wins out
Conf 3-4, Overall 7-5

6-Colorado State
Loses out
Conf 1-6, Overall 3-9

7-UNLV
Loses out
Conf 1-6, Overall 2-10

8-New Mexico
Loses out
Conf 1-6, Overall 1-11

Therefore:
1 – TCU: Maaco Bowl Las Vegas: Las Vegas, Nevada (MWC #1 pick against Pac-10 #5 pick)
2 – Boise State: Poinsettia Bowl: San Diego, California (MWC #2 pick against WAC#1/2/3 pick)
3 – Wyoming: Independence Bowl: Shreveport, Louisiana (MWC #3 pick against ACC #7 pick)
4 - Air Force: Armed Forces Bowl: Fort Worth, Texas (MWC #4/5 pick against C-USA pick, also has preference for service academies)
5 – SDSU: New Mexico Bowl: Albuquerque, New Mexico (MWC #4/5 pick against WAC #1/2/3 pick)

PS- Poor Boise State. Went from BCS game to playing La Tech or Nevada in SD. Which they will completely destroy by 40.

I feel sorry for the PAC-10 #5 team too. (not really - it might turn out to be the utards or the fluffs)
Huh? How could it be the fluffs? At best they can end the season with 4 wins, but that's if they beat both UCLA and Utah.

Poor MWC really. the conference just lost out on about $10 million in bowl revenue. Oh well.

I was worried about this game against NM this week, until I saw that NM had beaten UNLV. It still has the potential for a trap game if we overlook them, but NM getting that win was the best thing that could have happened for us IMO. They got the monkey off their back, and can go back to finding ways to lose. :D

That said, I don't think we overlook this game, simply because we aren't there yet. We lost to this team last year, and I don't think DC will let the team look past them. As long as we play our game and focus, we'll turn out ok.

Looking forward to becoming bowl eligible on Saturday!

GO POKES!

I am being selfish, but a bowl game in SD or New Mex and I can go. Hawaii or Louisiana, I'm out. I think a lot of Pokes fans are in the same boat.

Vegas would be good too. The Vegas Bowl people liked when we came down in 2004, and they like it when we come down for the basketball tourney as well.

Oh, absolutely. Vegas would be awesome. I just don't see us going there.

According to HCDC's Monday presser the unis will be:
Brown helmet (no mention of sticker color)
Gold jersey
Gold pants

There is one issue with these proposed Bowl pairings. BYU has a contract with the Armed Forces Bowl this season, so if they get to 6 wins (which they already have, currently 7-3), then they are guaranteed a spot in this Bowl game. And according to the Armed Forces Bowl webpage, BYU takes the spot of the normal MWC team that would go there. http://www.armedforcesbowl.com/2011/04/bell-helicopter-armed-forces-bowl-adds-byu/

This means, that currently, if your projections are correct, there will be 5 MWC teams bowl eligible, and only 4 guaranteed spots. It is likely some other conferences won't be able to meet their demands, so it's very likely all 5 teams will go bowling, but it'll get interesting to see how the Bowl select teams after the first two.

Las Vegas Bowl: TCU
**If TCU doesn't find a way to crawl into the BCS, I can't see the LV Bowl passing on the MWC champion.
Pointsettia Bowl: Boise State
**I can't see the Pointsettia Bowl bypassing Boise State to pick the home town Aztecs, since they won't even show up for a regular season game.

Then it gets interesting.
Independence Bowl: Wyoming
**With TCU unable to play here, do they go with the 3rd team in Wyoming, or bypass them for Air Force or SDSU? Even with the added distance, I think the Wyoming fans would travel better than either AF or SDSU, so by default, Wyoming gets this game.
New Mexico Bowl: San Diego State
**Even with AF only 6-7 hours away, I think they'd want the better team in SDSU.
Other random Bowl: Air Force
**It looks like the Pac-12 and possibly C-USA won't fill all their bowl assignments (especially if Houston makes a BCS game), so Air Force could easily slot into one of those openings.

There is a decent sized Air Force base in Shreveport...a lot of military folks would go just to cheer on the cadets, even if they aren't AFA fans.
