New Mexico at the Pit

we haven't been too successful winning down there for quite sometime, maybe Coach Duncan has something different up his sleeve, to quiet down that raucous crowd, we haven't ever been outta any game we play down there and I'm sure it wears on their crowd's nerves as they expect a blowout everytime. Josh being out is a big blow, but I liked what I saw with DC against USU on Saturday and maybe if the confidence holds strong and with Alex Kirk still being out, maybe Trey can be the pest to Williams that Josh can be, also need someone to watch "peter pan" Greenwood's shots as well, is it me or does it seem like he's been there forever. Maybe a new face, Trey Washington can be the difference if he starts!!!
Play to your best Pokes, and try to steal one more road win, afterall aren't we due???

I don't think UNM fans ever expect to blow us out.
NM fans know hoops, and they know what we will bring.

If Cooke can play well, that COULD be the difference between us winning and losing even with Adams out.
Kirk is the only guy in the MWC that can shut down Nance. If Cooke is playing well, Nance will get his boards and buckets.

And yes, Kirk is playing, him and Larry have been talking on twitter to each other.

I don't like our chances in this game at all even if Adams was playing. New Mexico is the worst matchup in the league for us with their two big men that we simply can't handle. Nance and Kirk will cancel each other out but they have a MAJOR mismatch with Bairstow. I expect the Pokes to lose this one, but come back strong against UNLV and San Diego.

Maybe we will be surprised with the performance of Hankerson and/or Washington in this game. There is a reason that Josh is the starter, but both of these two are capable. Good opportunity for them to show us what they can do against one of the top teams in the conference.

Simply can't handle? To the tune of allowing their big men practically zero interior points and forcing them to knock down shots from outside, which unfortunately they did, in an overtime loss in Laramie. Yeah, we were completely outclassed.

I won't argue that New Mexico appears to be a bad matchup for us, but that didn't show up in Laramie. Shyatt teams have played very well at The Pit but have come up short. I can't say that I'm predicting a win tomorrow, but I'm expecting us to be well prepared and competitive.

I do agree with you that we bounce back well against Vegas and SDSU. I just don't agree that we can't handle Bairstow and Kirk when we absolutely contained them in Laramie. If they're unfortunately hot from 10 feet beyond their comfort zone, it's tough to beat someone. If we're able to execute a similar game plan tomorrow, I like our chances. You can't expect those big guys to knock down as many outside shots as they did against us in Laramie. Wyoming played well in that game, but New Mexico played VERY well to beat us.

May the basketball gods smile upon us for a change!!! Man what a win this could be if it could happen!!!
