Schmoldt is reporting that the Cowboys will shift Danilo Robinson to a recruiting role and they will bring in LSU's strength coach Derrick LeBlanc (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=1504609) to coach the defensive line.

I guess its better to address the issue now instead of looking the other way and repeating another 100+ ranked defense.

He's got some great talent to work with.

That freshman class of d linemen is a monster. Olive, Hardy, Appleby, Bernthaler, Awrabi...

Add that to what we've already got and he's got some tools right off the bat.

Well, our pass defense was decent, and speed wasn't the problem, it was the rush defense that we were having issues with, in other words, our d-line was getting blown off the line in most games.

Now we have four 300 pound guys to throw in the rotation, with the return of Mertens. We're not going to get blown off the ball, especially when we're multiple. We'll be using 3 man fronts a lot of the time. That will give our d tackles rest.

After watching the spring game, I think our run defense will be the most improved part of our team.

Well, most of the Wyoming media has talked about the struggling O-Line issues that date back to the end of last season, so that could be a reason the D-Line looked good in spring.

I have to see it to believe it. The CDC era has been caked with multiple 100+ ranked rushing defenses, and every year we hear this "Oh, but they've improved since last year!" talk. I've got to see in a game to believe it. Losing Knapton and Biezuns will sting to some extent.

True about Knapton and Biezuns. They're loss will be tough to replace. I think Yarborough and Durbin are going to excell at d end in run defense. Both of them are very strong.

Mertens is a beast. Purcell is a very good run stopper. Kurt looked great all spring. The fourth spot in the d tackle rotation looks like a battle between Sumter, Appleby, Olive, and Hardy. I think a solid player will step forward in that group even though three of them are freshmen.

Most of our games will be played in 3-4/3-3-5/nickle defense, not a four man front. That's always been the way our league has been. We did very well against the pass last year. Still, our defensive tackles wont get as many reps and they'll have more legs late in the game/season.

Now we've got guys that can lock people down on the corner in MAN coverage, which allows you to bring more pressure, and fill running lanes. With an increase in blitzing and a healthy defensive tackle rotation, we're going to be dramatically better against the run.

Then you've got Nzeocha roaming the field at safety. It sounds like he'll play a big roll in stopping teams running games.

I feel confident. Our new defensive line coach stepped into a really good place.

I'm not sure that any Freshman DT will be competing for a starting gig. It's not about talent, it's about age. Boys against men etc, although Olive looks man enough already. Just tough to see an 18 yr old beating any of them out especially if we are running more 3 man fronts. I love seeing redshirts.

Unlike the Glenn era, it's not like Christensen is not doing anything to correct the problems on defense. I'm not running down Glenn, because his Breske defenses were pretty damn good. We'll see if these changes help - I think they will.

Is this common? For a strength coach to coach D-Line? He has been around some good ones so hopefully it helps!
