let me give you some history about me and my brother (cowboyjunkie).

we come from a hard working class irish family. our grandfather (o'donely) was raised on the oklahoma and arkansas border... his father had him moonshining at the age of 14. it was the 1930's to 40's... not all states got rid of prohibition at the same time. new york was the first, but it took 15 years for the entire country to follow suite.

now, many years and stories later... my family settled in wyoming. my older brothers and i started loving cowboy basketball around the same time. 1986. throughout the years, basketball has fallen off the high horse that is once carried in this state. I may have made some comments about cheers and chants for the student section earlier. but this time... i mean it. ive found something so completely working class wyoming, so hard working, so overwhelmingly unique; if we don't try to figure it out... id feel like i would have failed history or my family.

anybody here like the song "copperhead road by steve earle"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xvaEJzoaYZk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

obviously, the words have to be changed to meet wyoming basketball themes. i encourage asking the music department to assist with finding school lyrics. the band would have to be notified to learn the song.... and maybe bring in a piper... somebody in the band can probably play the pipes.

but can u imagine the level of holy shit, when the words meet the beat, (part 2:38) of the video. have the student section or the entire stadium stomping to the song. It would END opponents.

its traditional hard working rock meets country. it could be the beginning of wyoming basketball anthem! i don't hate if anybody disagrees, but at least im trying to find something great. lets bring this program back.

stomping and all! pistole pete and the girls stomping on the floor. GODDAMN it would be epic.

play it during our introductions.... play it during opponents time outs to slow us down.

the "hey, hey-Hey", and the stomping in the student section would possibly be one of the best tv chants anywhere.

it would have to carry a different name... instead of "copperhead road"; maybe, "copperhead dome".

or play the original version over the video and speakers during warm-up, then during the game have the band start our version of it, sung by the students and fellow wyoming fans.

of course its apparent that ive been partaking of the non-prohibition laws tonight. pretty damn drunk. but that what we do!

that's supposed to be chant? for the student section? Before I read the last line I was gonna ask if you have had anything to drink...

holy crap. Don't ever drink knob creek whiskey... then post. I didn't even remember posting that garbage last night till i came downstairs and logged in. WOW!

i would try to remove the hoof from my mouth but im too hungover. think ill just sit here and drink water for awhile.

Lol I thought it was way funny haha. I mean I could see what you were gettin at with the copperhead road type chant and how it might be able to work. It would take a lot of research to get it done though lol

another piece of wisdom. don't mix copperhead road with knob creek whiskey... crazy shit happens. im suprised there isn't some puke around my house somewhere.

Question with a little relevance:
When I was at the UNR-Wyoming gameearlier this year, they had started up a new chant, not long or complicated, but kind of cheesy really. Here it is.

"Battle Ready, Battle Born!"

Honestly sounds like what a SEC school would do, granted a couple of the towns have interesting nicknames, like Fallen is "Fallabama" and Fernley is "Fertucky".

Research on the Ref's too....Scott Thornley, Verne Harris, Tom Oneill, Dave Hall are usual suspects, that seem to have it out for having to be in Laramie...oh yeah don't forget the big heads, love those!!!
