New Casper Star-Tribune Beat Writer Ryan Holmgren

My wife was laid off the Monday following our thanksgiving trip last year and when I gave two weeks notice, they told me not to bother. I say fuck your company, they'd slit your throat to give a bigger bonus to an executive. You don't owe them shit. If they didn't need you, you wouldn't be there so don't act like they are doing you some huge favor by giving you employment

You work(ed) for the wrong company / wrong leadership. In your example, I would agree, time to turn the page and move on.

I have always been a firm believer in taking care of the people that take care of me...and treating them as they want to be treated. And that philosophy has largely almost always worked, with the exception of the entitled Gen Y snot-nosed motherfuckers that think they are owed something because they happened to graduate college with a degree in history or political science or communications.

Before you go blasting millenials take a look in the mirror and remember who raised them.

Oh, no doubt about that. It is still Chicken - Egg though.

If you are a fuck-up, own it...take some responsibility for your actions, have some accountability for being a living breathing human being. Don't blame your life and it's "tough" times on somebody else.

You poor young bastards...

Your response says a lot about your generation. You will get it someday though, maybe when you have been of legal drinking age for more than a year or two.

I weep for the future.

If I were Ryan, and I were reading this forum (I know they do), I would take another two weeks off. Come into this shi storm of a fanbase.

"Hey Welcome!...now where have you been???!!!!!"

In journalism, it is all about networking. Like any other job, you don't burn down the building on your way out. ESPECIALLY to just cover a mediocre/rebuilding football team spring practice. Those guys like Vorel are SO undercompensated for what they have to put up with (like fans)

No, my response says how funny I thought your mini-rant was about kids my age.

Peaches I think I'm probably a little bit older than you think I am. :thumb:

I can tell ya about hard work, and finishing a job, and sticking it out, and doing what I need to do.
I get that kids from my generation have earned a reputation by the grumpy old bastards who did a shit job of raising us, but at the end of the day it's foolish to think our entire generation is full of fuck-wads.

And if we certainly are full of fuck-wads, then nearly 100% of the blame needs to be on you guys. I mean if it truly a generational problem, then that's on you. Sorry we didn't know the value of a dollar and how to put in a full work day at 2 years old. Someone could have taught us those things. You had years and years to do it.

But it's not an entire generational thing is it?
There's lazy pieces of shit, entitled ass holes, and just straight up sucky people in every generation, every race, every city/state, etc.

Way to insult the caretaker at PhinDeli Town Buford.

That's what we do in the real world.. give notice then leave.

Who is this "we" you are referring to?

If I had a dime for every millennial piece of shit that left a position with one of my companies without notice, I would have an extra $500 or so in my pocket.

Key term.. millennial.

Granpappy..is that you? You may walk, talk, and f*#% like you are 80...but you aren't.

"Millennials (also known as the Millennial Generation or Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X. There are no precise dates when the generation starts and ends. Researchers and commentators use birth years ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s."

I would fall into this category, however, people my age don't identify with being a millennial. Probably not fair to lump them all in one group (guys like Beav, etc), but I can tell there's a huge difference culturally from when I was 22-23 and now (I'm 33). I had a group of early 20somethings working for me for a few months.. it was a learning experience, as they might as well be from a different planet.

However, in the professional world I'm in, burning bridges isn't your friend.. our community (professionally, and where I live), is a small one, so do good things, keep the bridges upright and not on fire, your career will advance.

In lax's case.. every story's different, you did what was best for you and the fam.

It never works to generalize as there are plenty of exceptions to every rule.

That said, I'm going to generalize... working for a privately held company generally beats working for one owned by the stock market (or even one funded with angel capital). The latter will do anything and everything to increase profits, including taking away workers' rights (lately, Lowe's, Hobby Lobby, etc. have been spending a lot of money to no longer have to pay/compensate workers who injured themselves on the job) and buying up competitors so they can squeeze the customer for more money for worse service.

Of course, what makes the whole thing so confusing is that properly compensated workers in jobs that require skill are far more productive than their less happy counterparts. Then again, many of the places where people are treated like crap are the kinds of places where they just need a warm body rather than somebody educated/skilled.

Isn't that trickle-down economics?

Trickle-down is the "theory" that if you cut income tax, the "job creators" will create more jobs so the middle class gets stronger. Sadly, the middle class is what drives demand and job creation, not the "job creators."

If there's no demand, why on earth would you hire just because you had more money? I sure wouldn't.

Beaver and McPeachy (for agreeing) still owe the caretaker at PhinDeli Town Buford an apology. Then, the thread can get back on track. :D
