New Basketball GM

This is intriguing to me. At the end of the day, we need the horses and the scheme to win. That said, I sort of geek out on analytics to find the right horses and develop the right scheme. This guy seems like a great get.

This is a really interesting hire. With all the data available from games it makes complete sense to have someone in there to analyze it and help fine tune your gameplan. From the article:
A native of Illinois, Stacy comes to Wyoming as the founder of Jam Basketball Intelligence a company
that constructed pre-game scouting reports that identify strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of opponents in college basketball. JBI partnered 10 conference champions, five teams that won 30 or more games and a National Champion.

So basically he is a scout who uses data nd AI to help breakdown tape? I guess the GM title means he gets paid more than a scout.

I think that's the gist. To answer LanderPoke, nearly all scouting at the college level is done by the assitant coaches. This position appears to be dedicated to scouting opponents with no coaching duties.

Lots of College teams are hiring “GM’s” now for football and basketball. If you go look at a lot of the power schools they all have “GM’s” now.

Do we have a GM for the football program? I would think a GM type of position would be far more useful in football than it would be in basketball. Lots more moving parts to a college football team compared to a college basketball team.

I suppose the answer probably boils down to money, as it pretty much always does.

Hire McPeachy! I will drain the swamp. I will cut the fat. No new taxes either! LOL

Not sure if the football team does. You would think they would. Alabama just brought on Washington head coach after Saban left and he brought his GM from Washington with him. When they hired the GM he got paid $500k. Some other school wanted him as GM so Alabama upped his pay to $800k before the season even started to keep him there.

Seems like peanuts for Alabama but since it seems to be a newer type of position that’s quite a bit of money.

Not sure how Wyoming even affords it for the Basketball teams, I would assume though if the Basketball team gets one the football team would. Unless it’s an idea Wicks had and the football coach doesn’t care about it. Who knows. Have to see if I can find any info on the football team GM now.

Edit: can’t find any GM for the football. Since it seems to be a scouting, analytics, recruiting type position, the closest type of thing I could find on the football team would be like a Gordie Haug and Jake Chapman. Both are recruiting coordinators and Chapman is also in charge of Video operations.
