Nebraska Recruiting

Nebraska fan here just wanted to post my thoughts on the kids you have pulled from the state so far.

First of all congrats on the good season, you guys are night and day better this year and its only getting started especially with how high of a level you are recruiting at. Disclaimer, the only school that would have a chance to pull these kids from a commitment from Wyo would be their homestate Huskers and with Mike Riley also recruiting at a high leve right now, its highly unlikely any of them end of getting an offer.

Patrick Arnold: A kid that was soooo close to getting an offer that a lot of fans really feel that we should have offered. Kid is mean as hell on the field and just as strong as he is mean. He is a bit undersized but with development I personally have no doubt he will see the lineup much sooner than later.

Chris Walker: Jesus look at the kid. He is an absolute mountain and ready to be molded in to anything you want him to be. He is a bit raw as far as football skills but he is an animal and will not be outworked by anyone. He will also be able to play sooner than later. Fresh body to mold with 0 percent bad weight.

Davon Wells-Ross is the most raw football player on this list but he is arguably the most athletic. It may take him a year or two but his athletic ability and ceiling is absolutely outstanding. One of those basketball players playing football. Never a bad thing to have athletes on the field.

Rudy Stofer once again another book end but with some growing to do. He is another perfect example of a fresh body to mold. The new era of football is going back to the old style. Putting good weight on kids right away rather than getting a kid at 300 and having him lose weight just to turn around and gain it all back in muscle.

These kids leaving the state really eats at a lot Husker fans because most know the value of our homestate "farm boys". Most of these kids play and work harder than anyone. At any rate it is the Cowboys gain, and let me tell you... You guys won with these. Your Oline is going to be some bruisers very soon.

Thanks for the update. It was very cool to get a huskers viewpoint. Sounded like Nebraska told Arnold that they weren't recruiting any interior linemen this go. That bodes well for us since huskers snagged one of our guys the night before signing date last time.

I have lived in Nebraska my whole life (born 1985). Never a husker fan- not even 94, 95, & 97 champ years..

They miss out on many guys that they should take. A few Nebraska guys that come to my mind that they never took
Kelly Stouffer (NFL QB)
Nathan Enderle (Went to Idaho broke all records there)
Danny Woodhead (Entire country missed him and went to D2 Chadron)

These are just a few guys. They don't always offer to those that should stay.

Also Wingards' dad played at Nebraska and he wanted to go there, glad he is at UW!!

Nice write-up. Thanks for taking the time. I have full confidence in Bohl's staff to correctly evaluate the talent they need for the WYO system. Things are looking up.

What I don't have confidence in is Nebraska staying away from Nebraska kids committed to Wyoming come February. David Englehaupt (Norfolk) was one of Wyoming's early prized verbals for the 2016 recruiting year and he so much looked forward to coming to UW. Whoops.....Nebraska came in very late and offered without much contact before. In speaking with one of the Poke coaches last spring, the WYO staff was pretty, um, bummed by what transpired. Here's hoping this 2017 Nebraska crew sticks with their commitments to WYO.

I know its probably annoying as hell, but in this state where there is no other show in town, these kids grow up watching, being a fan of, and dreaming to play for this team. This obviously doesn't apply to everyone but for a number of these kids its hard to get them out of the state with an offer.
With that being said our walk on program isn't what it use to be with kids much rather leaving to surrounding states for full schollies.

You will probably hate me for even saying it but it sounds like Engelhaupt is on track to being the Number 1 Tight end next year. From all the practice reports he is by far the most physical blocking tight end after this senior class is gone. He is a key reason people lose their minds over letting these kids get out of the state.

ANYWAYS. Bohl knows the talent and work ethic of this state from coaching here in the past and I have no doubt that Wyoming will pick the talent clean for years to come. OL specifically

Kind words, thanks.

I'm a little nervous because last year that one NE kid flipped at literally the last possible minute. I just hope you're right about Nebraska staying away.

I got the feeling from stuff I read that Patrick Arnold is very, very good. All four look like awesome football players. Well-Ross really does seem to have sky high potential. Can't teach 6'4'' and a 10.9 100m!

I don't fully expect to keep all of them based on last year

I think it's at least going to be a tiny bit tougher to lure kids away from Wyoming this year if we win 8+ games. Have to remember that last season we won 2, and it's a lot tougher to get kids to buy into your program with results like that, even if it was just year 2.

That said... could still happen - it'll probably just require a bit more effort.
