You are on to something wyosteelerfan...

And to answer 7220's post...it was never locked in (the 24th). The only game that was, was Toledo.

Nebraska has had the game slotted on Sept 24th for a while now. UW may not have made it official but Nebraska sure did. With Dr. Tom as the Nebraska AD there is a 0% chance the Huskers back out of this game. Nebraska is close to finalizing their last non-conf game for 2011, so far they have Fresno and wash at home and the road game in Laramie.

I wonder if the Huskers had a change of heart playing this game after the Big 12 zapped them for 9 million to leave.

I wonder if that will really affect them that much. Nebraska does have a large national following.

I mean, with being assessed a 9 million dollar penalty, I wonder if paying WY 3 million to buy out of the contract became less appealing. Scuttlebutt was the Huskers wanted to buy out the series w/ WY.. but it appears to not be the case now. I don't know how many of you had heard that, but I had heard it a couple times.

I'm pretty sure the Nebraska wanting to buy out the series versus Wyoming rumor came from the Wyoming side. Dr. Tom would never put Wyoming in a spot to have to find a new team just a year out. Several teams have done this to Nebraska in the near past and they were pissed.

whoa, 7220, why the bagging on Wyoming here? Why do you just assume that the rumor started on the Wyo side? The post I had read a while ago when this came up was that with the BIG 10 scheduling, Neb was perhaps going to have to boot one of its non-conf games, and if that was true, then it would likely be the UW game (which would make sense.)

Dr. Tom has to do what best for him and his university, and if he's not willing to step on toes, then he's in the wrong business. If he had to buy out this game, he'd do it.. whether that happens remains to be seen. At this point, it looks like the games will go on as scheduled.

It's going to be a sad day in Wyoming football history to see more Red in the stands than gold. I know of many Nebraska fans buying Wyoming season tickets just to attend that one game. Unfortunately many UW students are huge Husker fans. I don't see any benefit to playing this game. Nebraska has gotten back to it's dominate ways under Pelini. Another blowout loss most likely.

Take a look at what happened last time we played Nebraska.

Agree Titleist! 32-42 and their were a few thousand Cowboy Fans in Lincoln that day. It got crazy. to bad Christopherson got hurt. If he didn't go down we won that game. they weren't stopping us at all that game. And then if Je'nay jackson wouldn't had muffed that punt we were in victory formation.
So close.

1994 was the year. A close friend of mine, Jeremy Gilstrap, played in that game. He scored a TD amd a 2-pt. conversion ALL on his birthday.

The Huskers went on to win the National Title and we were the ONLY team that year to give them problems.

Ironically the week before, the Pokes got destroyed by Utah, 45-7, in Salt Lake City.

I remember listening to that game on the radio in Thermopolis.. man, that game was epic. We had those damn Huskers beat.. I think that was the closest game Nebraska played that year.

Just checked my 1995 Nebraska media guide. The closest game the Huskers had in 1994 was a 7 point win over Miami, 24-17, in the 1995 Orange Bowl enroute to a National title.
