My greatest laments

I actually have a list:

1. Brett Smiths talents have been wasted. Brett Smith is possibly the most talented person to take a snap in wyo history and our teams as a whole have been less then avg around him.

2. I'm afraid to admit Dave Christensen is not the guy to lead Wyo out of obscurity. This is sad for me because coaching changes tend to mean more years of obscurity while new coaches recruit players to fit their scheme. I believed in Dave but his greatest downfall has been an inability to hire a defensive coordinator who can defend worth anything.

3. I lament that I am not sure Wyoming athletics will pony up the money to attract a defensive coordinator who will do any better. Coordinators seem to be the area we lack and continue to lack under the last two head coaches.

4. I worry that I will become angry about losses now but that I will grow so used to losing that I will become like so many fans and become apathetic.

I love my pokes and have driven 36 hours to watch them play live. But I'm tired of being angry every Saturday because I love the pokes.

Some very on-the-money points. Agree mostly on Brett's talents - the hurry up offense experiment needs to end.

I don't think the Hurry up is a mistake, It just doesn't work with no defense.
+1 our offense has been pretty effective in most games this season, and we average over 35 ppg, it just hurts that we have no defense.

I love the hurry up offense.. much more effective if the defense is playing though. This is the most exciting offense we've had at Wyoming in a LONG time. Multiple 600 yard games this year, great rushing attack, great passing attack.. when was the last time we had that? Wallwork and Rhino? LOVE the offense..

We actually had a respectable D which ranked in the top 10 for a couple of seasons under Joe Glenn w/ Mike Breske.

That said, Glenn's downfall was the inability to find a DI QB. Just the opposite under Christensen. The offense is terrific... The defense can't tackle anything and the kids are constantly out of position on every play.

Offense, for the most part, does well. One of our best offenses since 1996 at least. But when we stall, we stall hard. And defense, well, they may as well not be out there after the 1st quarter, and put in some speed bumps, for how effective they've been.

speed bumps? Really? more like grains of sand.

Our defense is basically 4-5 players trying hard to cover 11 positions.

Meant the speed bumps would be more effective than what our defense is right now.

Is it possible for Brett to graduate early? I saw someone on Twitter mention the scary possibility of him transferring to a bigger school for his senior year like Russell Wilson did if he graduated in Summer of 2014. I certainly hope not.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did graduate early.
He enrolled in Spring of 11.
Spring, summer, fall (11)
spring summer fall (12)
spring summer fall (13)

That's 9 semesters....Granted, I doubt he was taking 12 credits in summer, that's kinda hard to do.
If he really wanted to transfer, he has spring of 14 and summer of 14 to do it. He has been @UW for quite a while as a student.

Brett is a smart kid though, I doubt he has failed many classes.

I don't even remember honestly.....its not even a rumor, just something some guy pointed out. But I personally had never entertained that idea. CDC getting canned, Smith realizing he could play for ANY school in the country his senior year if he graduates. Scary reality, but Russell Wilson propelled his career doing just that. Would not blame Brett for doing the same.

You also got to realize Wilson went to Wisconsin after a stint with the Colorado Rockies minor league system. 2 unproductive seasons as a minor league player, and the Rockies coaching staff telling him it would probably be 4-5 years until he makes it to the big league club, so if he wants to give football another chance, now is the time to do it.

The reason Wilson transferred was because NC State forced his hand. NC State wanted him to commit to football or leave and play baseball. He decided to give the minors a chance and, as a backup, he looked for a place to transfer since he had graduated early. He picked Wisconsin who had no problem with his brief foray into pro baseball and played 1 year in Madison. He did not skip any years of football, went straight from NC State to Wisconsin the next season. And the rest is history.

Wilson played 3 years at NC-State.
Played in the fall league, then played the summer league the next year, then went to Wisconsin.
No he didn't miss any football seasons, but still played in 2 baseball seasons before he went to Wisconsin.
