MWC Tourney seeding concerns?

We are already 1-0 against UNLV. We play UNLV in Vegas in a week, and have a great chance at beating them.

My concern is that UNLV ends up in the 7 seed. They will likely destroy San Jose State in the 7-10 matchup especially since it is at home for the Rebs. Meaning UNLV will advance to play the #2 seed which is looking like it is going to be us, unless SDSU drops 2 games real soon.

Can we beat UNLV 3 times this year? Can we beat UNLV twice IN Vegas this year? Can we beat UNLV in Vegas, then 2 weeks later beat them in Vegas again?

Am I the only one that is worried about this potential matchup? Or am I just putting too much stock into the 4 letters UNLV?

SJSU won't be in the MW Tourny. Academic issues.

Okay, so that means UNLV will be playing us first regardless correct? (assuming we are the 2 and they are the 7)

Nope. They'll play us second after they play the # 10 seed whom at the moment is Nevada.

You won't be concerned beav after we go down there and kick their ass en route to winning out the regular season lol.
Fresno, unlv, and new Mexico look like the most likely candidates for the 7 seed. We have all three left on the schedule still, and we're currently 3-0 against them. Of course I'd rather have air force or Nevada pull the upset and play them in our first game, but I've got faith in this team regardless of the opponent.

I guess I forgot we have 11 teams in the MWC and was looking at our standings incorrectly.

I just think beating Vegas 3x in a season, especially 2x in vegas in a 2 week span is a big task.

this is the season of many 1st's winning at Fresno St, beating the sheep in Fo Co for 1st time in many years, in fact sweeping the sheeep. we should get our 1st win at the Thomas and Mack in quite some time as at the Pit later on.
we'll be ok, I'm starting to really think this 4-0 the rest of the way

If the season ended today the match ups would be:

#7 New Mexico vs. #10 Nevada winner to play #2 Wyoming

#8 UNLV vs. #9 AFA winner to play #1 SDSU

#3 Boise St. vs. #6 Fresno St.

#4 CSU vs. #5 Utah St.

So looks like we will probably be playing either New Mexico or UNLV in the first round most likely if we are a #2 seed which means we may have to beat New Mexico two times in a week or beat UNLV twice on their home floor in a 2 week period. Neither will be easy. Of course Fresno St. will give Boise St. all they want and Utah St. will give CSU all they want as well. No easy first round match ups really.

it's conference tourney of course not, nothing's easy, but if there ever was a year for the Pokes to do it, this could be the year, been along time since I've been able to say that...whew

Agree but it is also a year with more parity than in a long time so I could see Utah St. or Fresno St. getting hot also and causing problems. Going to be tougher first round games across the board than normal IMO.

guess that's why its better to not count our chickens b4 they hatch, back to game at a time approach, let's beat Fresno 1st , lol

I like the idea of UNLV getting a win, then playing SDSU the next night in Vegas.
I don't like the idea of UNLV getting a win, then playing Wyo the next night in Vegas.

I don't know how I feel about a rematch with NM right away.

Man I am stressing this Tourney already and we are 4 games away and none of the seeding is set in stone.

Yeah these are your most likely first round choices against Wyoming or any other team actually. Who would you rather play?

New Mexico
UNLV
Fresno St.
Utah St

I don't think any team is going to enjoy their first round match up for the most part.

the way it should be really!!!! it's been quite sometime since we've made it the the final day, this is the year!!!

Well....
NM is 9-0 in the MWC Tourney the last 3 years not them.
UNLV twice in Vegas in 2 weeks? Uhhh... not really them either.
Utah State is potentially playing their last game with Morril as the coach... no thank you.
Fresno is a scrappy team. Let's see if we get the win the way I think we should, then yes I would prefer to play them in the tourney first round.

If possible I would love to play AFA in the first round, if the seeding works out that way.
If not, then I think Fresno is a good option for the Pokes, assuming we handle them by 8-12 in Laramie next Wednesday.

It brings me great joy to think that, potentially, SDSU's reward for securing the #1 seed in the conference tournament is a first round, road game against UNLV. That's the kind of game that UNLV could win. They've never lost a QF game in Vegas.

Lol, it could also be what finally gets Dave Rice fired.

And depending on how poorly Alford does the remainder this season, UCLA might get rid of him as well.

I think Alford coming back to the MWC either in Logan or Vegas would be scary for the rest of the MW.

+2 I haven't felt this confident in our chances to win every game we play in conference in foooooooorrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrr.......We're finally having that season were we as Pokes fans can truly believe in our team without six pours of brown n gold whiskey while wearing our brown n gold glasses. That alone makes me pretty proud of this season and where we've come from. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

There's a reason why Vegas is so low in the conference standings. They're not a good basketball team. They lost Vaughn for the year and are down to seven scholarship players. The guys they have left aren't the smartest players in the world, they lack discipline, and most of them prefer to shoot before they pass.

I don't fear UNLV this year, although they're a much better team at home.
