MWC Tournament

So I need some information from people that have gone before, I get a fairly descent discount for travel packages through work but they don't have the Hardrock as one of the hotels. Looking online doing everything individually I'm around $1500 for Flight+Hotel.

Now the question comes into play, I haven't been to Vegas in year like 20 of them to be exact. So first off should I opt for a car rental? or just take hotel shuttle and second staying at the Hardrock? Is it worth it if you have gone before do you find a solid number of Wyoming fans there.

I'm trying to get everything booked this week or i'll just procrastinate until it's too late and I'll never get there. If you have any information that will help make this easier please let me know!

Hard Rock is the team hotel, it is close to the Thomas and Mack, and the airport. Unless you plan on going anywhere else, you should be able to walk or cab it for cheap right from the hotel. Besides, alcohol is cheap/free, so no sense taking a chance!

You will run into Wyoming fans all over town, but I think there are quite a few at the Hard Rock itself, so that is a bonus too.

While the HRH is the team hotel and close to the T&M, it sucks. You're far better off staying someplace on the South Strip. New York NY, Luxor, Monte Carlo, and Planet Hollywood are all decent choices, Two I recommend- if money's no real issue, stay at the MGM. If you want some serious bang for the buck, the Trop is really hard to beat. Arguably the nicest rooms on the Strip.

If you do stay at HRH, steer clear of the food (other than Nobu). There's good Italian across the street at Ferraro's, though, and Hofbrau Haus isn't too bad. Again, your best bets for food are on the Strip.

If you want a funky place to hang out at near the T&M, I highly recommend the Double Down Saloon. It is one of the truly great dive bar/ saloons in the U.S. and the people watching is excellent. That being said, I would advise against venturing into any other bars in that neighborhood, unless the, um, "alternative lifestyle" is your sort of thing.

You really don't need a rental car, in fact, traffic and decent parking can be a bit of a hassle. Plenty of shuttles, buses, and cabs to get around. If you connect with a group of Wyo fans, I'd recommend splitting the cost of a limo.

I will second the recommendation for somewhere on the South end of the strip. By far the most convenient location overall for both the T&M and the strip. In the past I have gotten some very affordable packages through NY, NY but MGM is better if you don't mind paying a little more.

Also, definitely no rental car. Not even close to worth the hassle. Plenty of other transportation options available around the clock.

My recommendations for places to stay are quite similar...but the Luxor is a shitbox. In no order:

NYNY
Mandalay
MGM
Signature
Hilton Grand Vacations @ PH

Planning on making Diablo's, Pub 1842, and The House of Blues my watering holes while there.

Agree on the Monte Carlo and NY/NY. The Monte Carlo might not be a hot spot, but the rooms are nice and it is affordable. Same with NY/NY, but NY/NY has a little more to do.

Looking forward to it this year.....but also looking forward to the rest of the season.

Turns out he had to cut through the 2nd floor casino to the back and go up THAT tower. Then we got lost in the arcade in there. Finally, when strolling up and down the strip, we got kind of lost in the Treasure Island Casino when trying to get through.

I was there for a NAGA tournament with a friend, so that was my experience.

The wife and I have been down every year now for 11 years.... we got married during the tourney! haha We have stayed everywhere from HRH to north strip, south strip to franklin st. By far and away the most convenient way to go, if your flying in, is to get a cab or shuttle to your SOUTHEND Hotel (we like NYNY, MGM, Luxor). Then get a cab or shuttle to the T&M, so you can "adult beverage" enjoy the game (there will be a nice line to stand in to catch a cab on the way back, maybe even split the fair with another cowboy fan). If your into that kinda stuff.... Bring lots of money if your going to eat or drink on the strip, Vegas has definitely gotten exponentially more expensive on the strip. Get down to franklin st.. Its great fun and a ton cheaper to eat and gamble, just don't get caught owing money to the crazy dress up people that will sucker you into a pic. with them!! HA

We have found that the years we stayed at the HRH, we spent way more money traveling to the strip than we saved staying with the team (it gets old real quickly walking the two big blocks to the strip). The atmosphere is fun at the HRH when the cowboys are coming and going, but not worth the stay. Just run over before the team leaves or when they come back and you can enjoy that part and also enjoy staying on the strip.

I've stayed all up and down the strip, but the last few years its been at Planet Hollywood and I highly recommend it. I like to stay on what I guess is the east side of the strip for the simple reason that it seems easier and cheaper if in a cab, need to avoid crossing the strip on the return after the late Friday and Saturday night games, its a nightmare.

That is some seriously funny sh-t. Can't count how many overwhelmed visitors I encountered over my years in LV...

As for the memories of drinking at the Carousel Bar, I'll let one of my favorite people do the talking- "The Circus-Circus is what the whole hep world would be doing Saturday night if the Nazis had won the war. This is the sixth Reich. The ground floor is full of gambling tables, like all the other casinos . . . but the place is about four stories high, in the style of a circus tent, and all manner of strange County-Fair/Polish Carnival madness is going on up in this space. I always stay at the HRH and enjoy the convenience of it. It's literally a 10 minute walk to the T and M, and walking to the T and M everyday over 4-5 days saves you substantial transportation costs. Also the walk is good for curing the previous nights hangover. Wake up, place your bets at the sports book, walk over to the T and M for the day's games and then evenings are up to you. Yeah, its off the strip, but it's really not any different distance wise from the central/northern part of the strip than if you stay on the south strip. If you get all-session passes like I do and go to all the games, I'd recommend HRH, if you're just in it for the Wyoming games then south strip would make more sense to me.

HRH is a short 5-10 minute walk. Anything at/ near the corner of the Strip and Tropicana is about a 15-20 minute walk.
