MWC is no more...

It's official, WAC v.2.0 is back in full effect.

A couple of things I saw from the release:

*18-24 schools involved (for all sports) :brick:
*Football championship game :D , including a semi-finals (league playoff) :|
*Championship basketball tournament (can you say full week tourney?)
*Regular season "divisional scheduling" => at least we won't be having to travel to the east coast every other week.

This new conference won't last long.

Prediction: Wyoming will be in ANOTHER new conference that'll be more regionalized by 2014.

Some articles I've run across:

I don't know how I feel about this.. I think if they do it I hope the "East" and "West" can function mostly independent of each other for sake of travel (fans and students). I just don't see what CUSA brings the MW. But I think this opens the door for the WAC schools to come play. Idaho may not get invited though. Interesting times, but I can see why they did it.. when a schism happens they want to be on the right side of the fence when things go down.

This is destined to flop......a conference similar looking to the MWC will form after this thing drowns in 2-3 years.

+1 million and I predict it'll be a merger of leftover schools from the soon-to-dead Big XII and the current (as of today) Rocky Mountain-based MWC schools.

Something like....

Mountain Division
Air Force
The Basterds (BYU)
Boise State
Colorado State
Wyoming
New Mexico

Plains Division
Baylor
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech
TCU

That would be a dream outcome for all, but its a pipe dream for now. This conference realignment shit is getting old. Everyone loved it at first, now we all wish it had never occurred in the first place.

Some people need a freaking history lesson. What makes anyone think this will work? It was tried back in the 90's, it failed miserably. I know there aren't many options right now, but this? Might as well just try and stay strong as the MWC.

Only way my Big XII/MWC merger idea could happen is if the annual Texas/Oklahoma Bitch Fest happens soon and....with help from ESPN.

Realignment is getting old but as long ESPN is in the fold...we'll seeing a lot more of this.

wow, proof that a college football playoff system is in desperate need!!! gives us options to go to a fun new place for an away game for a change, this won't last for ever!!!!

Don’t expect The Mtn. to make it. Been told my a lot of people folks down there have been told to look for work elsewhere.

Great I'm sooooooooo excited to not get to see Wyoming play again on TV. This is going to suck. Right now I live over 6 hours from Laramie so I am lucky to get to one football game a year. But I saw all the games last year on TV except for the Weber State game which was not televised.

ESPN will give us a crappy offer to play Wednesday, Thursday & Friday nights but remember they have byu in their back pocket and have a deal with them to show at least 4 games a year. That means they have scheduling issues with showing this new conference games. Plus they will be getting the PAC 12 with one guaranteed game on Thur or Fri each week. That leaves us to play on Wed night or on "ESPN 8 the ocho" or Saturdays where they will not show us b/c they have the SEC and B1G on all day. We will get the 8:15pm kickoff that byu got last year 3 or 4 times.

The alternative is stay on NBC Sports (V.S) and CBS Sports but they also show PAC 12, MAC, DII and other games. Meaning not all games will be televised in the future.

Keep the MTN and add more games to it!!!! Please!

I don't know much about conference usa. But it does appear that we are on the right track to situating our football and men's/women's basketball teams at the top of the existing mwc and new conference.

Hello again 1996. Hope we become more successful so when people say "Who's performing good on the field/court" the obvious answer is "University of Wyoming." When people drop their bias, they'll realize we have a much larger fan base than realized. It is just spread all over.

I still think the merger is a good idea compared to what we currently have but I will greatly miss watching every Cowboys game on TV.

The biggest problem is not having women run the damn thing. (I knew Dallas smelled bad yesterday).

Whatever happens, just LOVE THE ONES YOU'RE WITH. (And be gentle with each other).

So if you wake up in the morning feeling like you've had it, BE GRATEFUL!

"Reunited and it feels so good."

:)

I'd have a hard time believing if the TV deal isn't better, that they wouldn't at least stream every game now. It is 2012, the idea isn't exactly new. It doesn't have to have the best announcers, but the fan's are pretty used to seeing almost all games on TV now.

I'm a fan, I could care less about the money behind it. I just want to see the damned games!

Well, now I'm really confused.....
