MWC Domination

This weekend helped prove what I have been arguing on other posts for weeks. That the MWC is damn good and that BCS schools fear playing us on the road. So far the MWC is 5-0 vs the Pac-10, 1-0 vs the Big 10, and 0-2 vs the Big 12. I haven't done the research but I doubt any other conference can boast such a successful record (75% winning) versus out of conference BSC schools.

Utah 3-0 won @ Big 10 Michigan
TCU 3-0 beat Pac-10 Stanford
AFA 3-0
BYU 3-0 won @ Pac-10 Washington, and destroyed Pac-10 UCLA at home
UNLV 2-1 won @ Pac-10 ASU, only loss to MWC
Wyo 2-1 only loss to MWC
NM 1-2 beat Pac-10 Arizona, lost to MWC, and lost to Big 12 Texas A&M
CSU 1-1 lost to Big 12 Colorado
SDSU 0-3 actually none of these losses are to BCS conference schools

No wonder Wyo has such a hard time making it to a bowl game. Right now I would say the MWC deserves an automatic BSC bid before the Big East, ACC, and Pac-10 (throw out USC and the rest get beat by MWC teams).

Since I am now living in Pac-10 country (and have been for now the 3rd football season), I wouldn't get too excited about wins over Washington and Stanford. Stanford is probably 8th in the Pac-10, and Washington isn't much higher. BYU should have destroyed them, instead of winning on a stupid celebration penalty. New Mexico's win over Arizona and UNLV beating ASU were big wins for the MWC. Of all those teams listed above, I can only see Arizona, ASU, and Texas A&M potentially becoming bowl eligible this season.

While I don't doubt the MWC could compete with the ACC, and potentially the Big East right now, they aren't close to the Pac-10 or the Big-12 at the moment. Luckily, the Pac-10 and MWC have a couple of bowl games, if I recall correctly, so we can revisit this issue in January.

Even though it seems like I am ripping the MWC, I am all for them moving into the BCS picture. I really think they need to add in a couple more teams and get up to 12, and the addition of teams like Boise St, Nevada, and Fresno St, would really boost the conference and pretty much force the BCS issue when it comes up for vote again in 2011.
