Moving to the Big East

Some dipshit BSU fan on Twitter was trolling me last night and this morning and it got me thinking..

If Wyoming and Boise were flip-flopped in athletics.. would you, as a UW alum/fan/booster be happy with a move to the Big East or would you be irate that your football team was playing conference games 2 time zones away and Olympic sports sent to a conference that's nearly dead. BSU fans seem to think this is a great move.. I can't wrap my head around it.

Switching places with Boise, having no non-football sports home? HELL NO!!

If for some unimanginable reason we were leaving behind CSU and Air Force to join the Big East in football and our other sports were going to the Big Sky (at best), I would absolutely be against it!

If you want to be one of the "haves" in college football, you need money and exposure. The Big East trumps the MWC in both, and now that BSU is gone, its not even close. The Big East is far from glamorous, but the MWC is a shell of its former self. For Christ's sake San Jose State has joined the conference.....it won't be long before others leave.

Tradition is college football is on its death bed. I can't speak for anyone here, but if Wyoming were in this position, and money/exposure were a must in order to move the football program forward, than yes Wyoming moving would be the right idea.

I for one don't care near as much about the money as much as the long time history and rivalries, Call it selfish but I miss the Utah and BYU games and I always will. If to get into an AQ conference it required possible severing of all rivalries including Air Force and CSU I would be 100% against it.

I agree that money runs the show but I sure miss when it was all about the competition and not the $$$

Don't we all? This shit has sucked ever since it began. Fuck Texas......and Nebraska I guess.

Yeah, fuck the Least. Like everyone else here, I would not be happy about a move to the Least and leaving Olympic Sports in A. A diminished, almost dead WAC. B. A conference that, so long as it is a D1 conference, doesn't care about sports. Or C. Hanging out in limbo with nowhere to go.

I'll stay in a regional conference with longtime rivals over a few extra bucks and teams that I don't care about (and those fanbases would probably say the same).

What I don't understand about Boise is that most of their alumni (90+%) is on the West Coast.. how is this even good for the alumni? And the WAC... good lord, the WAC.

I don't think we can talk about 'exposure' yet.

If a program wins, and wins consistently, the exposure will come (regardless of the conference). I'm a traditionalist so, I prefer we stay with our regional partners. I already miss the MTN and I don't care what kind of a crappy TV deal some thought it was, it was great from the viewpoint of a fan.

If you can show me how an extra 3 million dollars is going to get us wins, then I may listen but, money doesn't necessarily translate into success on the field. My other alma mater (Go Hoosiers) raised 8 million through the Varsity club in twelve weeks, they have a huge athletic budget, excellent facilities, and sit in a good area to recruit but, they haven't provided a consistent winning product on the field in a long time. You could add Kentucky, Arizona, Baylor, Louisville, Vandy, Purdue, Rutgers, etc... to this list.

We have to do what TCU did, win, and win some more. A good start would be by hanging forty or so on Boise and SDSU this year and bringing home the conference championship. Our confidence level has to come up and winning will do that. Once the program gets comfortable with winning, we can start playing 'giant killer' ala Fresno years ago.

One day, one of these schools is going to get to this point and tell the bigger conferences to go F#&% themselves. That's what this country is about...going against the odds...taking the long shot...the underdog.

If anyone wants further instruction/preaching, I will be in the area all day.
