Mountain West vs. Pac12 in NM Bowl

He said in the short paragraph we need 6 wins, but we need 7 wins to even become bowl eligible this year as we are playing two FCS schools.

Ugh, sorry but I keep seeing this when it is incorrect.....only one FCS game counts towards the total of 6, there is a difference between that, and having to win 7. We don't need 7 wins, we could still be eligible if we split the FCS games and end up 6-6.

I don't really care, just that it is incorrect, and just as easy to say/type it correctly.

ok, but i see it in the perspective that if we dont have 7 wins as everyone and their dog says we need to go bowling, we will get pushed aside and not get a bowl bid like in 2006 when we went 6-6 and didnt even play an FCS team. Another perfect example is ASU when they went 6-6 last year in 2010 and did not become bowl eligible because they played two FCS teams. Incorrect or not...bottom line is we WILL need 7 wins to become bowl eligible

Good catch snow demon, it was an honest mistake I have updated the post. Six wins is mentioned over and over again and this year I forgot we play two 1-aa schools. Yes and I know they are called FCS now but that is a load of bull :). Anyway, we have no business playing two of these lower schools it put's us in a very difficult situation. Thanks for reading, Go Pokes!

Using the above argument, we might as well say we need to finish better than 9-2, because we didn't go bowling in 1996 with that record.

Hey, I agree, if we finish 6-6 with only one FCS win we will NOT go to a bowl game IF there are other teams available to choose from. BUT, if we are the ONLY MWC remaining to fill a MWC spot we WILL go bowling at 6-6 with only one FCS win. I stand by my assertion that 7 wins necessary is an assumption and not correct, (unlikely yes, but necessary no). Truthfully, if we are worried about how many FCS wins count toward the end of the season, we are not where we want to be, WyoSteelerFan is right, lets just go win them all, then it won't matter.

Personally, I will be a little disappointed with anything less than 8 wins this year, so hopefully we finish the regular season AT LEAST 7-5. I also think that winning 8 or more during the regular season is possible. We won 7 games 2 years ago, 8 this year would be progress.

I would love nothing more than to get the 'Tards in a bowl game down the road. Wow.
I was thinking the same thing.

Totally agree, it is a no win situation, win the first and the second one is essentially meaningless, we would be better off traveling to Alabama for a big payday. I guess it could be good to develop young QBs and stay healthy, but that is about it. Not the best solution to a scheduling crisis BYU left us, but we kind of had to just do the best we could.

i have a good idea......

maybe we should try and win all the games this year
Haven't done that since the late 60s if I'm not mistaken. But I agree nonetheless. :thumb:

Last time Wyoming went undefeated in regular season play was in 1967 when we went 10-0 before losing 20-13 to Louisiana State in the 1968 Sugar Bowl (1st WAC team to ever play in a New Year's Day game).

Since then the closest we came to going undefeated was in 1988 but as we all know, we lost to the Houston Cougars at the Astrodome, 34-10, after starting 10-0 that year....and in 1996 when we started out 10-0 before losing two out of the last 3 games that year.

I study Wyoming football history a lot.

Actually fullback....we went 10-2 in 1996. Only losses were to San Diego State and to BYU in the WAC Title game.

In hindsight Tiller never shoulda taken the safety in the BYU game.

The reason we are playing two FCS games is because of the Utah schools leaving. Its difficult to fill games on such short notice when most teams are now scheduling most of their games 3-5 years out. I don't like it either, but it is what it is.

Dont get me started on the safety soapbox, 5 pt lead = bad decision, 6 pt lead equal good decision. we had a d that gave up yds but not touchdowns. i was yelling no before the outcome. we made it easy for them to tie it up, if they were forced to score a td i think we win the game. love coach tiller but still dislike that decision.
