Mountain West: The Conference That Refused To Die

Still rubs me the wrong way that UNLV and AFA get the biggest pieces of the pie.
We are fortunate to have been included in the second tier of financial distribution. Imagine if it was prorated based on student population numbers. Wyoming only beats Alaska.

In our case it was touted as a financial windfall which when you give the alternative any thought isn’t exactly untrue.

We are firmly in the have nots group of the FBS.

Well when you consider that Wyoming was only getting $1M for TV in 2020. They did not get the increase until 2021 (https://nevadasportsnet.com/news/re...rights-deal-with-cbs-fox-here-are-the-details). This new deal after losing 5 members essentially keeps the MWC together and keeps the same media dollars. Life could be worse, AFA could have went to the AAC, and UNLV to the PAC12 and Wyoming and the rest could have headed to CUSA. CUSA would have been bad as they only pay around $3M in total distribution and their TV deal is like 880K per team per year and they play during the mid week.
