I think Larry deserves one IF he plays with mono and leads us to a win.

I would like to be one of the 4 teams that starts next season on a win streak. That's all :thumb:

I'd rather be one of the 67 tournament teams that lose than a CBI champion, starting on a win streak or not

Simple answer, everyone's different. Different immune systems, varying cases/stages/intensity of infection.

More complicated answer, playing with the symptoms of mono isn't the concern. Mono often enlarges your spleen, making it vulnerable to injury. People have ruptured their spleen doing things as simple as jogging. A ruptured spleen is life threatening.

So deciding whether or not these two play isn't necessarily as simple as "how are you feeling?", it's whether or not their spleen is in danger. Sometimes you can feel 100% ready to go but have a big, fat, ready to burst spleen.

They said they caught Larry's earlier

There isn't really a treatment for mono. It's a virus and it has to run its course. It shouldn't matter when it was caught.

Has also been diagnosed as a "mild case" of mono

Mild case may be and hopefully is true.

As far as the other statement, unless Laramie doctors changed the way viruses work or invented a brand new treatment that previously did not exist...they're blowing smoke up our ass.

It's also interesting that they say it was "diagnosed early" because most blood tests for mono don't typically show enough antibodies to confirm it until 2-3 weeks after the start of the infection (the reason it's so hard to control infection, people don't know they have it).

This...they are just saying this to calm the fan base and make them think it isn't a big deal. Honestly, it really isn't that big of a deal, it just depends on how bad he gets it. If he gets a mild case, no worries.

This is exactly right. Man this fucking sucks! I can't believe our luck :brick:
I don't know the different levels of mono but plenty of people get it and don't experience anything. I'm very worried though cause if Nance has been diagnosed it means he's feeling pretty shitty already or less then optimal. I don't know how these guys are gonna go. As previously stated it may not be safe and even if it is I don't know how these guys won't feel totally wiped out after playing a D-1 college basketball game for days while going to school too. Fuck when I got it my doctor shut me down from work for a week and wanted me to take it easy for at least 2 to 3 weeks. Mono just keeps lingering too.

Indeed.

I'm not trying to instill panic or anything. I'm just a nerd when it comes to this stuff.

I can tell you that the staff is now more hygienic than they've ever been in their lives right now.

Maybe with his Crohns disease and treatments for that, it won't be as hard on his body as it is for Herndon.
Or maybe they both constantly have IVs in them.

I don't know, I just want Larry and Al to feel better.

From personal experience, what I do remember of it (been several years), you just feel like crap. You have little energy or motive to do much of anything, let alone a high energy sport like basketball. But if they caught it early enough in both of them, hopefully they'll be ready to go in a few days.

How I even found out I had mono was crazy too. I had just went to my buddies wedding hitting it pretty hard drinking and was in a crazy relationship that kinda had me run down. I was feeling under the weather for sure for like a week or two thinking it was a cold. Pus in throat that sort of nastiness, but it really didn't hurt that much. One morning I wake up take a shower and sure enough I'm spitting out blood. I freak the fuck out! Keep spitting out blood a few times over the next couple hours then had to go to work. Stressed to the max and scared I get through work. Spit out some more blood later and go straight to the ER. They swab it and have the results for me in an hour...mono. Blood was because my throat had ballooned up so big that it just started to bleed, which isn't that uncommon. That led to staph infection in my throat however that didn't get detected for another month but I was wondering why I wasn't getting better. So I had to really go into the docs office and push them cause they keep saying "mono lasts up to 6 months". Finally one of them goes "we're running some more tests" swabs the shit and probably saves my life with antibiotics.

I just want to tell this tale to let you guys know how serious this shit is and how to react if it ever happens to you. Shut it down and take it easy. If these kids can't play again this year read that above. Mono is no joke.
