Montana Game

Taking a look at Montana and I think this will turn out to be a very difficult game for the Pokes. A big test early on. It always tough to play on the road in College Basketball and Montana is traditionally tough at home (beat Boise there last year). They are led by a talented PG who transferred from Oregon (Ahmaad Rorie). I don't think we have anyone to defend that type of guard.

I'll bet Louis Adams can guard him. Adams got to face some athletic guards in the Bahamas this summer. I loved the defense he was playing against some guys that were pretty athletic.

We''ll see, the Border games are always tough. The Montana schools like nothing more than beating Wyoming. It's a very big game for both teams from Montana. It's a big game for Wyoming. They have to perform or they will lose. I like a Montana team as an early season test.

There's only been one game played this year, but our depth and length should present problems for a lot of teams this year. We've got a legit 9 nine man rotation, maybe 10. We'll have a lot of options to find match-ups that work in a lot of games this season.

It became obvious, if you don't have the right post guys, Jordan Naughton will tear your ass up. There will be several teams this year that don't have an answer for his physicality and growing set of post skills.

Justin James is a defensive nightmare and gives us the athleticism to cover long wings. He has all-MWC defensive potential. He just needs to learn the lessons DC and Larry learned. Just focus on defense and let the offense come to you. It will.

Gorski looks great so far this year. You can tell he lost weight and the increased quickness has made him much more dangerous offensively. I expect big things from Gorski this year. He gives us another offensive option that you can't afford to double team off of.

Does anyone know if there's going to be a stream for this one? Montana should present a much bigger test than Western State.

For the stream, see my post in the other thread.

I don't know about Adams on defense at this stage. He certainly has the ability, but this will be his first real D1 game and he got lost occasionally on D against Western St. A year from now, Adams and James will give teams fits on both sides of the court, just not sure they are ready yet.

That should be a good game. At least it should answer a lot of questions about our team this season.
Agree. Hard to get a feel based on playing 13 players and not having a set rotation. I think some have picked Montana to win the Big Sky, so would be a nice road win for a team picked 10th in the MWC.

Montana frontcourt runs 6-8, 6-7, 6-5.

They have one other 6-8 kid on the roster, from............Rancho Cucamonga, CA (same town as Naughton).

Some are of the touch variety. James was just fouled and no call. They also called a charge a block. But, the Pokes need to play a little cleaner. Losing Naughton right off the bat has hurt our presence down low.
