Mike Dunlap

From what I'm hearing, this rumor might have some legs. Apparently BCG was told he wouldn't be interveiwed but was very interested in the job. Disappointing if true, but who knows.

Dunlap seems like a great hire on paper, but I'm wondering why he wants the HC position now. He's been pretty selective, and I'm wondering what makes UW so attractive at this point?

Just hope the announcement comes soon, but if Dunlap is the guy, we'll have to wait until their tourney run is done.

GO POKES!

Yeah, we can only speculate at this point as to why he would take the job now. Since random speculation is what we do best on message boards, here are a few reasons that he might be taking into consideration:

1. He still has a home in Denver and spent 11-12 years in Denver before moving 3 times in the last 3 years (AZ, OR, NY). Him and his family might be looking for a little more stability and to return to the region. He heavily pursued the CU job last year (lost out to Boyle), so I think he has clearly shown an interest in a HC job in the area recently.

2. While he turned us down in the past, it is apparently that we are now offering approximately double the compensation we were at that time (it really ticks me off if we could have had Dunlap before if we had only opened the pocket book, but oh well). Maybe the salary combined with other commitments from Burman and UW (recruiting budget, etc.) are enough to convince him we are committed. Maybe that wasn't the case 4 years ago.

3. He might just be ready to be a HC again. Why us? Maybe timing, maybe being close to the Front Range?

Well...if that is true...then that sucks. Probably the product of the earlier references to the rich old ultra conservative rancher / landowner that said, "we caint hire us nobody thats gots em a drinkin issew, and since I am giving a million to help fund this here thingy, i says, no way." And don't tell me that scenario isn't believable...UW is chalk full of whores.

Further...why no "mention" of Reggie Theus? From what I understand, he wants back into college hoops in a HUGE way.

Really, the only people I have heard that advocate him are UNLV, SDSU, and some UNM fans to this point.

McP are you fucking insane? Ultra Conservative ranchers LOVE to drink. At least every one I know. Drinking is part of being a rancher.

I know there are rumors flying regarding Mike Dunlap to Wyoming, but I'm told the process is far from over. #gopokes
I'm told Dunlap is high on list and I think it would be a solid hire, but don't think we should consider search complete. #gopokes

I for one think hiring Dunlap would be a good move. He isn't Gillispie, but I like the coaches he's worked under. He had to have learned something, right? Right?????

I like Dunlap as the first choice. Awesome potential hire who is a great x's and o's guy. Matched with the right assistant with great recruiting skills, I think he could have the AA rocking and rolling again. From there, and I know they lost to Indiana State the other day, I really like Cuonzo Martin at Missouri State. From there, I would choose Shyatt, then Cox.

You always take a chance with an assistant. Ask the Broncos how McDaniels worked out. Bellichek may be a genius but it sure didn't work it's way down. That's why were nuts for not going after Gillespie. Is there anyone on this board who hasn't gotten behind the wheel after having a few? I'm not proud of it but I've done it. Hell, we even had a qb who drove his car through someone's front porch. Yet, we don't go after the best candidate because he's had a dui. We deserve to be in the play in game every year.

I wouldn't be surprised if they make anything >.00% BAL a DUI in the future.

Well, considering I'm among the rare breed of Wyomingites that don't drink, I can claim that I have never had a DUI.

I did get a speeding ticket once, but I have never been a morning person anyways.

I do drink (Budweiser Select is my fav) but never got a DUI. I have a personal rule: never drive even if I have only one beer.

And I'm not a morning person either.
