Eh, big deal; so some kids fought after a football game. Football is a violent sport, I'm surprised we don't see more of this.

Except that it is a big deal, because the zoobies, their administration, their fans, and the church have always held BYwho athletics (particularly football and basketball) up as shining lights of sportsmanship and honor. And they got caught with their pants down on national TV.

This is the way it's always been at BYwho, the holier-than-thou, "we can't do any wrong" attitude, that in practice shows some of the worst people on the face of the earth. I'll never forget watching Rafael Araujo sucker punch Josh Davis (I think) in the AA, get away with it, and then act like a crybaby if anyone laid a finger on him. Or the untold number of times I watched from the sidelines during a football game as a BYwho player grabbed, punched, or kicked a Cowboy when the refs were preoccupied. Or the time I watched a player's wife try to start a brawl with our players at the Thomas & Mack Center during the MWC tournament.

And yes, I realize that some of this happens during every collegiate athletic event at every university, and the university can't be expected to control every player, coach, or fan. But BYwho can quit laying it out there that they are better than everyone else because they have an "honor code" that's supposedly important to players, fans, and administration. it's only important to the administration when they get caught (like yesterday), and most players and fans couldn't give two shits about it. And this event proved it. On national TV.

This just exposes the zoobies for who they really are, and I couldn't be happier. Merry Christmas Poke fans.

GO POKES!!

It's funny reading comments about this. Somebody who cared all too much posted step-by-step videos of how it all began, and it appears it was a BYU player (#56, I think) throwing a celebrating Memphis player down or something.

Anyway, even better - fans from all over are talking about how BYU's the chippiest and least sportsmanlike team out there.
Virginia fan:
"Maybe this will finally dispel the falsity that BYU is a 'saintly' program. We've played them the past 2 years and they were the most chippy teams we've faced this entire decade. Just my personal opinion that they're actually pretty dirty and use the cloak of being a mormon school that people tend to avoid associating that (being dirty) with them. Lavell Edward's teams were a bunch of shitheads also."

Georgia Tech fan (responding to this):
"Yep, pretty much. We've played them a handful of times over the last decade. I'll give them their due. They're coached to play hard and they do. If you schedule BYU, you better come strapped up because they'll play tough. But they'll push it right up to the limit and beyond. They are pretty dirty. What you said is 100% true, and I doubt many people will disagree that aren't BYU fans. If you've played them, you know they are assholes."

Wisconsin fan:
"If I couldn't drink or masturbate I'd probably be pretty pissed off as well. What do you expect from a bunch of hormonal 20-something Mormons?"

Houston:
"3 or 4 dirty shots against us, too. Hate those guys"

Oregon:
"Seems like BYU always plays dirty, ironically enough."

Washington:
"For the second year in a row, BYU loses a bowl game, and one of their players does something dirty.

Boston College:
"Welp, all those BYU guys lost their postgame green Jello privileges."

Miami:
"Well I guess The old orange bowl spirits are still alive...

Every time I watch BYU they seem to get in scuffles or are jawing after the play. I've only seen about 3 BYU games over the past 2 years but every time I watch them there seems to be a lot of activity after the play"

Baylor:
"Word is someone on the Memphis sideline accidentally called them Jehovah's Witnesses"

Sorry, but it's different when Holier-Than-Thou U* is involved. Puts that school and its backing institution in the proper light for all to see.

Being an LDS Pokes fan who lives in Utah, I am like a kid at Christmas here right now. This isn't about teammates defending teammates. This is about fans and players living in la la land.

This article sums it up very well. Even from church owned ksl.com

Ask Nevada fans about Chance Kretschmer. Ask any damn fan base that's ever played BYU in anything and there will be a story. Their reputation is well earned. I don't doubt anyone with a "BYU is a dirty team" story.

Best soccer game ever. What did those BYU girls do to deserve this?

Listen: the torrent of people from around the country who are all "nobody should be surprised, BYU is dirty as hell" has done something for me. It has reinvigorated my belief in the holiday spirit. I have a warm, fuzzy feeling in my belly and a tear in my eye. God bless the Miami Beach Bowl for giving my least favorite institution in the world another opportunity to expose itself as the shitberg that it always has been.

what a bunch of Sissies, hitting somebody while turned away, but that's BYU for ya, just like their idiotic fans, I'll never go back to LaVell Edwards Stadium or the Marriott Center, ever again, thank goodness i won't have to...lol

Hate BYU sports. I can't believe that some guys I know still say would like BYU to be added to their conference.

Personally, BYU people pretended to be friends to us and stole our loans to them that included jewelry. They also told us that we could not come to anything they hosted because we were not mormino or whatever they called themselves. We experienced racism by them. It was more of that taking from friendly and trusting American Indian and American Indian mixed people. I can't stand them. I believe (oh this is where I gotta stop).

So for me I built a wall when it comes to BYU people, one that was not there before....

Oh and I really mean it when I say that I wish all programs would stop scheduling BYU. Show them their value....
Oh and that bowl game fight makes me remember Miami and FIU fighting.

It can't help BYU to the big12 conversation

Agree. Shame for them because BYU would be a nice fit for that conference. Big 12 will probably think twice now or have to reach for other schools.

Personally, I doubt it impacts their Big12 chances, but I did love it.

Embarrassed on National TV and lost the game. Couldn't happen to a better crowd. Weird how often they and their fans are involved in things like this.
