You're comparing our current situation to that of a program in a 3-5 year skid. That's not the case with UW. This is going on almost 15 years now. Standing pat with Christensen (and Burman for that matter) looks a lot like procrastination and lack of urgency and reinforces the whole complacent image. A couple of Trustees (backed by the Governor) deciding to take the reins on this thing, given the exigencies of the moment, would make a big statement and go a lot further than playing it "safe" and riding the storm out. We're steaming in circles while waves crash over the deck. Point this thing into the wind and make for the squall line. You're far more likely to attract a rainmaker with bold action than you are with circling the wagons.[/quote]

Great Point....However, not comparing anything just wondering if we are still making payments on past mistakes?

Here's an improbable but not impossible scenario.

Joe Tiller turns 71 in a few weeks. We all know he loves Wyoming. Is that love deep enough to lure him to Laramie with enough money to pay a solid group of assistants at least long enough to right the ship.

A similar scenario has happened before at New Mexico State. Lou Henson coached Las Cruces High School before going to Hardin-Simmons and then to New Mexico State. After several years at NMSU he had a lengthy career at Illinois and eventually retired. After his retirement he was coaxed back to coach NMSU for several years for a salary of $1 per season. Like I said, its improbable but wouldn't it be cool if Tiller could be our Lou Henson?
