Mediocrity

Mediocrity is by far the most used word here the last couple weeks. Aren't we being too optimistic with that?

We are not mediocre, we are terrible!

Like I said in another post, I wouldn't mind mediocrity right now.
Like AFA was from 2007-2012. 6 straight bowls for them, going 2-4 in the bowl games, but always winning 6-8 games a year.
We act like we have a mediocre program, but we don't. We have an awful one.
Mediocrity is a step up from where we are.
We should not settle for mediocrity after an extended period of it, but we need to get there in the first place.
Before we go to win MWC titles, we need to be at least mediocre.
Getting to a 3rd bowl in 5 years would be a huge step towards that.

This guy is amusing.

Cute too, little fella.

He's still talking about this team going to a bowl game.

Last four (4) games they've allowed:

52 points
44 points
48 points
48 points

A bowl game.

Yes.

Go Pokes!

I don't think that he is saying we are going to a bowl game. He is simply saying that to say we are a mediocre program is false, we are a bad football program and have almost always been bad besides very short stretches. Beav is saying that we need to progress as a program in order to consistently make bowl games every year. Until we can make a bowl game in 4 or 5 straight years it is hard to expect us to go from a terrible program to one that is a decent program. The first step is to fire DC, and the next one is to increase the athletic budget enough so that we can hire a good coach as well as a good coaching staff around them.

Okay, well consider this.

If, and that's an enormous IF, we win the last two games and head to a bowl game, then Dave Christensen returns next season.

I for one, do not want that.

However, to even mention Wyoming and a 'bowl' scenario in the same sentence based upon what we have seen is beyond ludicrous.

The defense AND offense have significantly regressed throughout the season, the football program is in tatters with morale as low as it has ever been in the last 10 years, the school President was just canned/resigned, gloom and doom have descended upon Laramie...and someone continues to mention the word; 'bowl'?

Come back to the reality that planet earth should provide.

You mean the light bulb just went off in your little head to figure this out. WHO is this WE you keep talking about, because I know it isn't ME.

I don't disagree that the program is in taters and moral is very low around here Doc. I am with you as well that DC must go.

I was just pointing out that Beav wasn't really talking about this year he was talking about the program in general. This has been a bad program over our history and he was just pointing out that we need to get to a point where we consistently get to bowl games and then once we are on that level progress even further, but we have to get there first.

I think we need to get rid of DC, but more important than that is to increase our budget enough to be able to hire a very quality coach after DC is gone and a quality coaching staff around them as well. The athletics budget needs to be increased by a minimum of 4-5 million a year IMO and until we do that it won't matter who we have as a coach because we will continue to have a terrible coaching staff around them.

Thanks YankPoke. You got me.

And Doc, as bad as we have been playing, the fact is the team just needs to win the final 2 games to get to a bowl.
It's not like we are 0-6 and need to win the last 6. We are 4-6 and need to win the last 2.
It is very unlikely, and I won't be surprised to see the team go 0-2.
I see them going 1-1. But yes for a BOWL (that word you hate so much), they just need to beat Hawaii, then go into the last game with a never say die attitude and do what they can to win just 1 more game.

I know it is unlikely so you don't need to say "Our program sucks we need to fire DC our defense has given up 200+ points in 4 games DC sucks our offense sucks we need to fire DC" for the 100th time.
I want them to fire DC as well, unless we win the final 2 games and WIN a bowl game.
Right now there is still football to be played, and a bowl game, a bowl win, and a winning record are still possible.

That is what I want. That's it.
And before we start winning MWC titles, we need to at least go to bowl games on a consistent basis.
To get great we need to get good. Before we get good we need to get mediocre. To be mediocre we need to go to go win a bowl game this season. And next.

The message to DC should be: Win the final 2 games, then win the bowl game or you're fired.
If you win a bowl game, you better win at least 8 and another bowl next season, or you're fired.

Fair enough. We've been mediocre for decades. Doesn't matter who the coach is.

Our problems are structural, with problems no different than another 80 or so FBS schools who are confronting the vastly changed face of college football since the early 80s. Every one of those schools has its unique challenges -- ours include our strange and difficult location, minuscule native recruiting base, tiny TV market, etc. -- but we are just one of many schools in the same spot.

Tell you what...and no one likes to hear it...but we're going to have to discuss at some point where we get the most bang for our buck, and where success is more likely achievable. And that's in basketball.

Cuttslam, you think I'm the only one who has been saying mediocrity? It's been all over the board.

And snowyrange, I think Wyo should try and be a basketball school. I'm all for putting more money towards hoops.

+1 on basketball as well, it is much easier to build a basketball power in this day and age than for us to build a football one. Not by any means suggesting that we abandon football, but just that we try to send more support towards our basketball squads.

Only one thing has remained consistent in the Dave Christensen era: Inconsistency. This team has been great, good, mediocre, bad, and awful all in one year with various different results. These last two weeks were the first time this season Wyoming just appeared to be completely outmatched by their opponent. Not even Nebraska did that. I mean geez, they made an obviously young and rebuilding Boise team look much better than they are.

The Christensen era has been a teasing one. Trading off years in which one year you may be teased into thinking Wyoming just might be going somewhere with its football program, only to then be teased to thinking Dave may get canned. Neither has happened yet. And now it appears as if even Colorado State of all schools has surpassed Wyoming. Its time to move on, but I'm not really sure if the BOT/AD will go through with firing CDC.

Wyokie will find you....and he will rid you of anything you ever cared about.

Yep.

There are a number of places where this is the norm...put it all on the line for basketball, and leave the chancy football arms race to the others who have already won it. It's liberating to be around those schools, actually. Football games are like a fun social event, and every once in a while a team does better than expected, and everyone's delirious.

FOOTBALL ipays the bills, not basketball...you jackasses!!!!

I do not want Wyoming to turn into the Duke of the west. Great basketball but shitty football!!!!!!!!

NO WAY! When Sternberg got canned, any hope for the future went out the fucking window!!!!!!!!!!

Safe bet members of the BOT have ties to the fucking basterds from Provo!!!!!!!!!! :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Haha I would LOVE to be the Duke of the west. Hell even they are in line for the ACC title game against FSU, are looking at a 10 win season, and who knows if they pull it off against FSU in the title game, they will be in a BCS Bowl!
I mean, if we are going to suck year in and year out, with the occasional good year, wouldn't you rather it be a year where we win 10 plus and play in a BCS Bowl instead of 8 and lose in the NM Bowl?

You might not, but everyone else would be so happy with that, it wouldn't even be funny.

I bet there are lots of fans who would trade having a weak football program for an elite basketball program. It beats already having a weak football program and a mediocre basketball program. Right now the life of a Wyoming fan includes false hope at the beginning of the year ending with disappointment. I'm pretty sure everyone minus Wyokie would love the life of a Kansas fan.....bad football, followed by the craziness of basketball season.
