McMurry Gift

In very sad circumstances, the McMurry family continued their remarkable support of UW athletics. We should all be grateful and, if we find a chance and the right time, take an opportunity to pass on our thanks to that family.

It's also a testament to our AD, the Foundation, the UW adminstration, and the state of Wyoming, in the way they shepherded this gift so that the McMurrys could make a substantial difference in this difficult time.

Thanks to all.

Yes, well said, Snowy. Thank you McMurrays for your exceeding generosity. Your dedication will eventually pay off :)

I am truly grateful for the McMurrays' generosity to the people of Wyoming, UW, and UW Athletics. There are times when I wonder if we are deserving of their generosity. I hope the BOT, the new UW President, and the people of the State of Wyoming are worthy of this gift.

Uh, no...this spectacular (not being a smart-ass) gift, has Ben Blaylock written all over it. The AD / UW administration had very, very little to do with making this happen.

I am grateful Ben is on our team...he is top notch.

He was involved, as were all the others I mentioned.

It was a great team effort to help the McMurrys do this good thing.

(I don't know why this pains you. Well, I guess I do know...but I don't why it should pain you.)

Ben was just "involved"?

Guarantee you - he was a little more than involved. And to say the others were "involved" - hell, may as well say McPeachy was involved from WyoNation as well then.

Ben was just "involved"?

Along with Foundation board members...and the other folks I mentioned.

Sorry that it upsets you so much.

Anyway, it was good work by all, and great generosity by the McMurrys.

I am not upset about this at all, that is a ridiculous assumption! This is a terrific gift from the McMurry Foundation (and tribute to the late Mick McMurry). One of the best to the athletic department.

I just want to make sure everyone knows where credit is due...to facilitate something like this with the McMurry Foundation & Susie McMurry...and that lies squarely on the shoulders of Ben Blaylock. And yes, some of his staff certainly was involved.

I just want to make sure everyone knows where credit is due.

I already described the team that was involved. They all deserve credit.

But, bottom line, the McMurrys deserve the credit.

I really wish the good ole boys would go after corporate sponsors for a change, The donation is great but UW is leaving so much money out there they could get and they just can't seem to get the big picture.

Or they are trying but no one is biting.

Do you honestly think that ANY energy companies are looking to make major gifts right now?

Two major coal companies have filed for bankruptcy protection this year. The stock price of most coal companies is down close to 90% over the past 5 years. Almost every upstream oil and gas company is losing money right now with no end in sight as to the downturn in prices...The next few years could be REALLY tough on the Wyoming economy, JUST SAYING.

The McMurrys' gift is huge! Thankfully they had the foresight to sell a lot of assets when natural gas prices were much higher and before the discovery of the vast Marcellus' deposits.

Energy companies aren't the only corporations they could and should be going after.

I can think of very few companies to consider that are not energy or railroad companies.

Think about taking three minutes from your next post and send Susie McMurry a thank you note.

I can think of hundreds of companies, Hell look at Boise they have a brand name on everything they build because they got out and get money from companies and they get big money for it.

I think it's great that McMurry donated but I dislike the fact the University hasn't gone looking for real money the way every other university has started selling themselves.

Please share the names of these non-energy non-railroad companies that are willing to make large gifts to the University of Wyoming athletic department given our small market and small reach....I still can't think of any...Union Wireless perhaps but they are already a smaller donor

PS - Boise State has brand recognition and a sizeable market
