Taking a quick look at McClain's schedules:
McClain played weak schedules his last 3 years without much success. Here are Wyoming's SOS and RPI going back to McClain:
Shyatt:
12-13: RPI = 73, SOS = 54 - CBI
11-12: RPI = 83, SOS = 96 - CBI
Schroyer:
10-11: RPI = 264, SOS = 112 (God, we sucked)
09-10: RPI = 228, SOS = 67
08-09: RPI = 100, SOS = 112 - CBI
07-08: RPI = 227, SOS = 158
McClain:
06-07: RPI = 121, SOS = 99
05-06: RPI = 170, SOS = 91
04-05: RPI = 132, SOS = 115
03-04: RPI = 127, SOS = 53
McClain's schedules were very similar to those of Shyatt and Schroyer with the exception of 03-04 which was a really tough OOC with Creighton, Dayton, SIU (when they were really good), Washington, K-State, Cal, etc. Of course, that team finished 11-17 against that tough schedule.
