Massive Student turnout last night!

Yeah the games aren't really advertised that much.

I'd say the best marketing there is, is just students talking other students into going.

when i was in school 88-93, the Slater, Benny Dees years right after the Fennis years, we would average 4000+ students and the chants were fun and such, now i guess it's all about the bars and video games and oh yes homework. there are some vocal fans that show but surely something has to change, guess we've gotta wait for conference for them to come

Yeah there is one outside the union, a couple at Prexys and one by the Classroom building. That is literally all I've seen, save sheep week

Point proven - UW marketing the game (any game), still sucks. Another strike against Burman, IMO.

What needs to change, or what would work best (or multiples of things) to market games better to students?

When I was a UW student, way back when, if there was a reason to drink beer and meet women, I was all over it. And mostly, those reasons were games (hoops and football). More for the pickin' if you know what I mean.

Maybe the current student (in general) doesn't care about pussy & beer, and instead cares about battlefield 4, eating hummus, and masturbating?

Beat me to it- damn, scratch that, poor choice of words...

Too many students I talk to- and I've talked about this before, this college-age generation is the most insular generation in, well, generations. For all of our "connectivity" vis a vis smart phones and social media, there is an amazing disconnect from the actual world around them. Virtuality has replaced reality.

It has, and its irritating as hell. Coming from part of this shit generation.

We do receive emails at the start of the week that detail the various athletic events throughout the week.

What do you mean the marketing is terrible?

I got a facebook ad saying I'd get a free burrito if I was one of the first hundred students at the CSU game.

A breakfast. fucking. burrito. <------if that won't put you in the seats, i don't know what will.

Hey!! What the hell is wrong with Hummus!?!? I love hummus and I haven't more than one home game in years! For either sport.

I wonder what they did with the extra 27 left over.

I was a student at the end of McClain start of schroyer era. Basketball wasn't as a big party/social event for students as compared to football or Thursday night bar deals. I would still pre game at a bar or what not, but you would get ejected from bball games if you were rowdy, drunk, or profane. During a BYu game I was once ejected by event staff along with what seemed like two or three other rows of students for chanting fuck you Byu. I don't blame students for not going if you have security and law enforcement staring you down an entire game ( takes away the student section experience). Again, I blame Burman for the game day experience in basketball. I believe he put a focus on making wyo basketball( in the AA) a "family friendly" event, and that really doesn't mesh with a social event for the students. When students aren't involved I think the crowd experience is shitty for the other fans.

Just my opinion!

I'd agree that they need to lighten up quite a bit on crowd control kinda stuff 100%

+1 it is ridiculous that they throw people out for language at a COLLEGE basketball game

I think judging them and scolding their insularity is kind of the wrong approach. They're in this weird place because of what the generation(s) before gave to them. No, the trick is to figure out how to pierce their bubble and get them to look outside of it. Some of the most effective tools for market messaging in the history of commerce are at our disposal. It's a matter of tactical deployment and effective use.

Need to get some of the same experiences and "comfort" they stay home for into the live event experience.

I think part of it is, like marcuswyo said, they crack down on everything way too much. A lot of people go to football just to be obnoxious assholes (myself included sometimes), and they don't let that happen at basketball. Regardless, I will be going tonight + about 10

It cuts both ways. That language will get you thrown out of the T&M, Cameron Indoor, and any number of "big time" venues. The home team can receive a technical for the home crowd's behavior. In fact, game officials can disqualify an entire team for crowd behavior.

The trick to having a good time, and getting away with it, is understanding that you CAN go to far. Why take things to the point that your university's leaders are getting an earful from a pissed-off big-time donor because incivility ruled the day?

The problem is that they don't just throw you out for going too far, you can't go anywhere. They get mad at you for saying anything derogatory towards anyone even if it doesn't contain foul language. They go way too far with the crackdown.

Agreed. I mean I know what you're saying Wyovanian, there is a line that gets crossed from time to.time. Chanting alcoholic for example. But they do take it too far a lot of times
