Mark Mangino

Why wait... Let's start discussing who the next head coach at The University of Wyoming shall be.

Mark Mangino would be #1 on my list. He's currently at Youngstown State and openly looking for another HC gig. The guy won big time at Kansas of all places. Look where they've been before and after him.

I think he would be a great fit for Laramie.

I agree. Jokes aside, he would be a good get. More realistic than my favorite, Craig Bohl, simply because Bohl won't even talk to any school until after January when his Bison are done whipping whoever is in the FCS title game.

No he rode recruits also. Dimel type. I really like Wilcox, could bring in Bouknight as OC? I would really like to see a former player on the sideline

Bohl is still my top, I would not mind Mangino either. I liked a lot of guys on Kansas' list as well, I don't care a lot who the coach is as long as he wins us football games.

Well stated. Does bobby Petrino have a shot?

+1, The more I look into Wilcox the more I like that idea. And would love someone like Bouknight, especially since I don't think we get Bohl

IMO I would say no, it doesn't seem like he would want to come here as it is a fairly lateral move and he already makes good money. We would have to get out some serious cash to get him in here, and I just don't see our administration being willing to do that. I would love him though, and think that he could win us a lot of games next year with the talent that will be potentially left over.

I disagree that he rode the recruits, he had his best year in 2007, 5 years after taking over at Kansas. They were all his recruits by that time. I do agree with the second half of your statement though, about Wilcox and Bouknight.

Tell me about Wilcox. I read his bio and saw that his D got torched (admittedly by good offensive teams). My concern is that these Boise dudes never do real well outside of the mother ship...now is not the time for an experiment.

as much as I would like Bohl I don't want to wait until January to throw a recruiting class together. Wilcox could leave easily since Washington is not in a BCS bowl. Strong ties throughout the country recruiting. Has coached in 2 great conferences.

Fair point about Bohl, that is one draw back on going after him. I think WIlcox could be a solid guy, I am interested to see what other names start coming out that Wyoming is looking into.

Wyoming has not talked to Bohl nor Wilcox. Neither of them will be interested. Pipe dreams is what they are.

Thanks fellas. I just don't know much about him.

My hopes for the new coach:

(1) Embrace the state and the fans (never really happened with DC)
(2) Adaptability (ability to make half-time adjustments) and courage
(3) Tied to (2) - can hire good assistants (guess I will have to pony up through a Foundation donation)
(4) Recruits well in the region

I also believe that it might be in their interest to assemble a team like they did for Shyatt's hire. Burman cannot afford another mess up...on his own. I would call in Shyatt, Legerski, Tiller and, call me crazy, someone like Sonny Lubick.

I brought up Mangino's name about 10 days ago...I would talk with him no question.

There is definitely something there on the notion of needing a coach who can develop players. Wyoming is never going to be a place where upper-tier recruits go. Wyoming will always rank towards the bottom of recruiting rankings. The program needs a guy who can squeeze everything possible out of the guys he can get.

What about Brock Spack? Defensive Coordinator under Tiller at UW and Purdue, current head coach at Illinois state. Has a solid recruiting back ground and a decent record as a head coach. I would still prefer a current or former D 1 coach though.
