Major Applewhite

Big name should be able to recruit Texas, but another coach that is young and not very experienced (now a running back coach). Not sure he would have the contacts to put together a great staff—still interesting.

If this is true, I think Major would be a really good hire. He is young, but I believe will be a fine head coach.

We have a friend who coached with him at Rice. I believe Major was the OC at Rice and then the OC at Alabama before he went back to Texas. I have heard he is a quality individual and a whale of a recruiter. With Muschamp being named Head Coach Designate when Brown retires, this might be the best time to go after Major.

That is just my opinion and I could be totally wrong, wouldn't be the first time. :D

If those in the know are truth tellers then Tom is a liar. He says no one has been interviewed yet so the part where someone is saying Applewhite has already been interviewed shows they are guessing or Tom is lying. I am going to take Toms word for it right now as he has zero reasons to lie about interviews completed and saying he has not. What I herd for what it is worth is that there may be phone calls of inquiry going back and forth to between candidates and UW to gage interest. There will be a lot of sorces that say things that may or may not be acurrate like Gary Barnett has been hanging around Laramie a lot. Hell I even herd at the football game that Ted Gilmore is Toms drinking buddy from college and Tom owes him something and that is why there was this interview already set for Tuesday. Maybe there is an interview set for Tuesday but would it be only because they are drinking buddies?

I have herd too many times that Tiller is consulting with UW. I bet not a word has been spoken between Tiller and the athletic department.

Right now is nothing but guessing and rumors.

For what its worth on the rumors:
a "friend in the know" relayed that although Applewhite has not yet interviewed, there has been contact between him and the athletic department. An interview is being set up. #2: Ted Gilmore: Gilmore and athletic department have talked and interview is today. Contact was made before the firing. Contact was encouraged by those with the $$$. The big rumor is that Burman has already picked out who he wants, but is going threw the process to see if there is someone better. A friend also said that Burman was on his phone nonstop during the game with possible candidates. Friends who were in the AD's box confirmed this. Take it for what its worth. I think that Applewhite and Gilmore are viable candidates and one of them will be the HC. Also, there has been no contact between the athletic dept. and Tiller.

Isn't that what fans do? Speculate as to what will happen next? From the next play to the next QB to the next game's score to the next Head Coach...so on and so forth? Nobody is calling TB a liar and nobody has definatively stated for fact that they know who is on deck to be the Pokes next HC. If it weren't for speculation before the fact, how would we know who are the master prognostigators and who are full of crap... :argue: :argue: :argue:

Hell, the rumor part is almost the funnest thing about the process. And the suprising thing is that some people actually get it right   :o :o

If you guess enough times maybe you get one right.

The rumor I'd start is that Mike Ditka is coming to coach Wyoming.

Da Cowboys!

I agree. That is why I will continually vote and spread rumors that Norm Chow is set to take over. Or Gary Barnett. Or John L. Smith. Or the cat from Bowling Green. Or the other cat from Buffalo.

BUT...for the love of everything WYOMING...please, please, please, no Ted Gilmore as HC, and NO to "anybody that has never been at least an OC". PLEASE!

I just want the guy that can get the job done. I agree that having coordinator expererience would be a plus, but I don't think its the end all be all. I gurantee there are plenty of guys who could do a fabulous job as a head coach who are low level assistants somewhere. IMO - Its Tom Burman's job to find the guy who can come in motivate this team, hopefully go to a bowl game next year, and be competing for a MWC title in 3 years.

I don't think anyone has posted this, so here is a link for his bios:

Do you think he and his wife would be happy in Laramie?

Major would be a nice hire for the short term I think, but I agree please no one who doesn't have at least some experience as a coordinator.

I would still like the rumor of Norm Chow, Steve Sarkisian, Or the coordinators at BSU or Florida, I would even like Phil Fulmer from Tennessee or Mike Leech (a WYO native) but I don't think that is realistic!!!

Dan Mullen (OC at Florida) would in fact, be a terrific choice. He was with Urbie at Utard and Bowling Green as the QB coach.

See, I served nothing more than to spread a rumor, and not have my name tied to it. It worked!

Bobby Hauck interviews on Friday.....

...Ha!

Don't you really want a MANAGER as head coach? Look at good CEO's of companies. None of them can make a widget, plan a plant building, design a tool machine. What they do is know the industry and know how to get the right senior managers to do the aformentioned tasks, raise money, and ride herd on the hired help.

So you need someone that knows the game, knows who else knows the individual detailed parts of the game to "manage" that part, knows what kind of "workers" will fit into his version of the "industry", how to get these workers, and how to raise "capital" to promote the industry.
