Lopsided series w/ Boise [OBNUG]

All kidding aside I areally enjoyed my time drinking in Laramie. The ranger is a dive bar but there isn't a better place in the world to get shit faced. I live in Tempe, AZ and they claim they are a party town. The bars in Laramie are packed thursday, friday, and saturday. That isn't the case for the bars around ASU, so I am not sure how they consider themselves an elite party school. Maybe they have more house parties or something, or maybe they rank it that way because of the abundance of women.

Point being I would rather drink and party in Laramie than anywhere else.

We used to go to "Sins" in West Laramie on Tuesdays for their fishbowl night. That was fun!

According to latest census, Cheyenne is just under 60,000, Casper at 55,000, and Laramie at 31,000.

I am sure the census figures do not include students from out of town.

How the hell does that work? I've dug around and never found an affirmative answer on whether or not the college population is counted in the city population. Inquiring minds want to know!

If the current census is 31,000, and UW has 10,000 enrolled in laramie (roughly), if the school is counted that means there are 21,000 people here. Otherwise there are 41,000 when school is in.

The footprint of Laramie seems quite a bit smaller than Cheyenne. But I could see it being 3 or 4 times larger than a Riverton or Lander. Sheridan feels quite small compared to Laramie.

Any ideas anyone?

The Census numbers likely include a portion of the university students. Basically, if the students have changed their official address with the states, to wherever they are living in Laramie, then they count for the official population of the cities. Those people who's addresses are still their parents homes (most likely all the people living in the dorms and younger renters), would not count on the census population numbers.

Ever hang out in laramie during the summer? It's a ghost town. No way it's 30K when students are gone. RS is 23K according to the census and we have more stuff and it's a freaking madhouse.

Question. Why doesn't Laramie have a titty bar? That would kill! Probably the same reason why we can't buy beer at football games, well unless you are a wildcatter!

I have some insight on this question...

For the same reasons that:
1. The state won't put a lottery in place...
2. The city of Laramie is against alcohol sales on campus...
3. Old fuckers in the stands tell you to quiet down at football & basketball games...

This state is "run" by a bunch of tight assed overly conservative very rich old ranchers / landowners. And they are all paranoid as hell about change and doing things different. Die old bastards, Die!

The census numbers include everyone living in Laramie on April 1, 2010, which DOES include the students. (or is supposed to. Getting them to list Laramie as their town on the census forms hasn't always happened)

The official population is 30,816.

That includes UW students, Wyo tech students, LCCC - Laramie campus students, etc.

UW student enrollment is listed at about 12,000. (Grad and undergrad) That number is higher than the number actually on campus / in laramie as it includes on-line and outreach school numbers. For a few months in the summer most of them probably leave, but some do stay for work or summer school. I'd guess that Laramie drops to about 22,000 or so for the summer months.

I was an RA in 2000 when the census happened. We had to distribute forms to the residents, but weren't responsible for collecting them. If I remember correctly, the form was special to college campuses, and asked a question to the effect of "can anyone else (eg. parents) claim you as living in their household."

I've had a lot of beer since then, so the memories are a little fuzzy, but it was something like that. So yes, the census number probably includes many students, but certainly not all.

I'm guessing less than half of UW students, Wyo Tech, & LCCC Laramie students were counted in Laramie's census figures and the ones that weren't were counted on their home census. Most of these students don't call Laramie home.

That may be the case. The census is supposed to be where you physically are on April 1 - not where your hometown is, but that knowledge doesn't get to everyone.

We worked a lot more with UW this year than for the 2000 Census to try and get a better student count. Some of the counting was done during spring break though, which I'm sure missed students and others. Based on other housing and parcel data I have access to I would guess there are closer to 33,000 people in Laramie.

there's no best buy in laramie... hell, there isn't even a target.
There's only a permanent population of 25,000 or so in the town. A town that size with bigger cities like Cheyenne and Ft. Collins 50 miles away gets left out in the cold by the big box stores.

The permanent population is no where near 25K. Maybe 15K. Schools in probably 25K. I don't think Rocket City over here in the SW has 25K. Although we don't have a Papa Johns.........I miss that garlic dipping butter!
Well I've lived here 21 years, and there is a lot more than 15k permanent residents. Census just came out and says we've passed 30k.

Lived in Laramie 21 years too (granted, I am 21, but still), and there are more than 15,000 permanent residents.

haha.. where the hell is Hot Springs county? I'm surprised Worland didn't jump in population more considering all of the gas rigs hanging around town. Gillette.. jeez, huge jump in population.
