Good point. Or be a doctor or dentist. Two of my brothers (smarter than me) could have gone to more "prestigious" schools including Harvard, but chose to be go to UW. Guess what they are now? A dentist and a med school student. Business world aside you can accomplish almost all your dreams by doing your undergrad at UW.BeaverPoke said:DVDA said:The network and automatic top-of-the-list you gain from a Yale education is worth giving up any P5 scholarship. I don't think he would be an idiot, but maybe he thinks he can achieve what he wants from Wyo. Maybe he is a bit more reserved and doesn't have an interest in going to Yale and the "bigger economic world".
Chris Pro had offers from Harvard and came to Wyoming.
Maybe he just wants to study ag or knows that if he gets an engineering degree, he has a job waiting for him in his hometown.
But with all that said, I don't think we land him. That offer list is impressive.

You are wrong. Every single Mormon that grows up out east goes west for college. Except for that random mormon school in Virginia. And yes, there is a healthy population of Mormons at UW.djm19 said:LanderPoke said:Mormons like to marry and date other Mormons. There aren't many Mormons out East. Let's not forget this
This isn't entirely true. Even Laramie has a lot of LDS. Rhode Island, Mass, Connecticut, has plenty of LDS. The church started in New York.... So, yeah, lots of LDS people on East coast. As many as Utah, Arizona, Idaho and Wyoming? No. But if you can find an LDS wife in Laramie (Which I have had dozens of friends do), you can find one anywhere.
I would love to see Dawson in Brown and Gold.
Except Yale has an LDS Institute, as well as an LDSSA organization. A quick google search says one of their leaders (last name Holland) is a Yale alum.LanderPoke said:You are wrong. Holland moved out there as a married man to do his doctorate (not an uncommon move by mormons). It's just if you go out East you run the risk of not getting married (all this talk of getting married because mormons get married quickly because if you're a good Mormon there's no pre-marital sex AND no whacking-off and what red-blooded man can last long living this lifestyle??) because there is a very, very limited pool. This fear of not being able to find a spouse keeps mormons out of eastern schools. Say you do a year of school before your mission, go on a two year mission, and it takes four more years to get your degree that puts you at 25 years old. That's a long time to "withhold" and it's important to find the right woman to marry, of course. This is why 99% of Mormons out East go west for undergrad and virtually none go East for undergrad. This conversation makes me laugh for some reason.cali2wyo said:Except Yale has an LDS Institute, as well as an LDSSA organization. Let's keep the Mormon trivia to our resident Mormon, djm19.
Sexual frustrations leading to sucker punches on the football field and basketball court perhaps? :rofl:LanderPoke said:if you're a good Mormon there's no pre-marital sex AND no whacking-off and what red-blooded man can last long living this lifestyle??

Also, can we change the thread title? We've already established he's not going to Utah. And we're not really talking about Theo much, either

Either way. Theo would be a great Poke. He can still enjoy college and his religion in Laramie.

Anyone whose first allegiance is to Scientology Light should be kept at arm's length.cali2wyo said:I have a great deal of respect for young LDS kids, it takes courage and maturity to do what they do. I know Mr. Dawson will benefit greatly if he serves his church for 2 years. My comment was more of a joke towards Mr. Large and his lack of football insight. I meant that he clearly must be breaking news on something else going on in his life besides football, given Mr. Large's track record of providing wrong information on recruits.djm19 said:I know several current players on UW who are LDS, who cares?
I wasn't trying to mock you or any other member of the LDS church, including its missionaries.
