Longhorn fans coming to wyoming game

Over on hornfans.com in the thread called "OU&Wyo cutoffs" http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwthreads/postlist.php?Board=stands texas fans are saying that it turned out, there was no cutoff donation required for donors to get tickets to the wyoming game. It says that everyone who was a donor and requested a ticket recieved one. That sounds to me like there won't be a whole lot of texas fans over the 3800 allotted tickets coming to the game, since every one of them that requested a ticket received one in the visitor section

That is interesting...especially as we were all told by somebody (on this board) that there will be over 12,000 Texass fans at the game. :o

12,000 might be pushing it a tad, but if you don't think there will be more than the allotted 3,800 tickets, you are plain crazy.

I imagine the claim that every Texas fan who requested a ticket allotted to their ticket office got one is probably accurate. The thing is, this is the number 2 team in the nation, one of the most storied franchises in college football history, and the pride and joy of the third largest state in America. These fans get out and travel for the Horns, and I imagine the majority of these fans made the decision to search for better seats than a second deck, south corner view. My guess is there will be a few thousand fans in the allotted visiting section, and somewhere in the neighborhood of five to ten thousand additional Texas fans throughout the stadium. So I would guess a total in the 8 to 12 thousand range, or around 20% of all the seats.

Regardless of what the percentage ends up being, the population of Laramie with more than double on September 12th, and the War will be the largest "city" in the state of Wyoming that day. With standing room and grand stand seats, there will be over 50k screaming for one team or another, and the bars will be PACKED beyond any one's imagination!

I still think their problem is getting into the stadium. There will only be 30k-32k available seats, not 50k. Everyone who requested a seat received one which means there are not a lot of extra texas fans looking for tickets that there would have been otherwise if they had a donation cutoff. All the other regular tickets were sold as season tickets or to CJC donors with less then 2% going to fans in texas. The remaining seats are going to students. So yeah there may be 10k wanting to go to the game but I don't see more then 5k who make it in, because they won't be able to get tickets, as they are all already gone, and there just aren't enough seats available.

I think you are exactly right. Wyoming fans alone would never sit by and watch the stadium become 1/3rd filled with Texass fans. This is a big game for Wyoming fans...the number 2 team in the country coming in to the War. 5,000 Texass fans max (which is great) but there will nowhere be close to the 12,000 as talked about. No way.

 And have it's average IQ reduced by half.

I sure hope Wyoming can pull off the upset against the Longwhorns. I am also pulling for BYU to put a hurtin' on the UO Cheaters in JerryWorld.

Here is to a great season for both of my Cowboys! :D

Longhorn fan here. Group of about 10 making the trip next month and can't wait to get up there. We received our tickets this week and we've been placed in section S3. I'm guessing these are temporary bleachers in the south endzone?

Also, what is the tailgating scene like for gamedays? What about local bars close to the stadium? Would love to here some local input from Wyoming fans.

Great to hear you are making the trip. Have you been to Wyoming / Laramie before? S3 is the south endzone bleachers (temps), you are correct. Your seats won't be great, but they really are not bad either...compared to some of the venues I have been to! For tailgating, you have several options. East parking lot with Cowboy fans (which honestly can be a blast if you know the right folks), Tailgate "Park" that is south of the stadium with food, music, etc., and the local bars (I would recommend the Library because it is literally maybe 3 short blocks from the stadium entrance.

I think you will find Poke fans in Laramie, for the most part to be very friendly. There are always a couple of exceptions, but that is anywhere. Cheers!

I've never been to Laramie and neither has anyone in our group. But I am really excited to escape the extremely hot summer we've had down here and get up there to enjoy some golf and football. As for my group, we try and go to at least 1 true Texas road game per year (excluding the short trips to Baylor and or A&M) so we are seasoned road warriors. For the most part, the Texas fans you will encounter will be very friendly and will just be looking to have a good time. It's not uncommon for Texas fans to travel in mass to road games. Now, for the amount of Texas fans coming to this game, I'm not quite sure. It's really hard to tell. Texas did sell out its allotment of 3,800 tickets, but like someone said earlier, everyone in the Longhorn Foundation who requested tickets by the priority deadline received them. That can be misleading though. There was a priority deadline to submit requests for season tickets and road games. It's very likely that people forgot to submit their Wyoming ticket request before the priority deadline (it was sometime in May) and thus submitted their request afterwards and thus were not rewarded tickets. So there might be a few hundred to a thousand more Texas fans scattered about, but by no means am I expecting 10,000-12,000 Texas fans there. No way. More like 5,000 max.

Rhoby13 it will be great to see you and all your friends in Laramie. It should be a welcome break from your hot climate. Weather in Laramie in September is usually great, clear skies and low 70s. However, it is 7,200 feet. So bring your sunscreen. Also, a clear crisp day in Laramie can turn to cold and blustery in a hurry, so bring a jacket.

I dont want to start a new thread for this but the last few years i have lived in the dorms and just walked to the war from there so is there anywhere to tailgate besides the east lot? can you tailgate in the field by the art building?

I am a big Cowboy fan in Florida. I was in Cheyenne and Laramie last week and stopped at the Wyoming store at the mall in Cheyenne. A couple was in the store and bought tickets for one of the games but not the Texas game. The person behind the counter was showing them a diagram of the available seats. There was a big block of seats that were not available. They were told that a large number of the seats had been purchased by Texas fans who were required to buy season tickets to get tickets to the Texas game. She then told the couple that those seats would be empty and unavailable for the rest of the season unless bought/given by the Texans. The games may be considered a sellout but will have a large number of empty seats. Can anyone verify this. It would seem that all those empty seats could be made available somehow. Can UW ticket office verify how many "Texas fans" purchased season tickets and is there any way for a UW fan to buy those seats on a per game basis.

If these are season ticket seats, they are probably have pretty good field positioning. Find out where they are. Buy the cheapest ticket you can. Sit in a Texan's seat. Or, maybe on Ebay or Craig's list you can find a bargain. Or, go to the Texan section section during halftime to see if anyone is willing to sell the remaining season tickets for a low price

Not every Texas fan purchased tickets through UT. I'm just sayin'.....

wyopokesfan23...

I posted the links to the parking lot map / policies on another thread, from the Wyoming Athletics website. Alcohol (open containers) are only allowed in the Stadium lot, X, IPF, Brown, AA, and H lots. From the dorms, that means your best option would be in tailgate park.

Accoriding to Burman, less then 2% of the 8000 season tickets were bought by texas fans living in texas. Meaning less then 160 seats were from texas fans in texas. Obviously texas fans not in texas also could have bought season tickets but I don't know how all the texas fans from different states buying season tickets would be in the exact same area to have an entire block of seats not available.

Not sure how many fall into my category, and I was not part of a large group of Texas fans that bought out a section, but I live in Denver and did buy season tickets in order to ensure that I can bring my family to the Horns' game in Laramie.

My wife and I came up for the Texas A&M game in 2001 (Sept. 6th, 27 degrees and sleeting at halftime, priceless) and had a great time. I am really looking forward to the return trip for the Texas game!

That was a great game.. my first game when I got there my freshman year of college.

Hey guys, glad I found this board. Only one that came up when searched for was the rivals board or whatever.

I'm coming up with my wife and parents and about 10 other members of our tailgate and am really looking forward to it.

I think it's hard to say with how many Texas fans are coming. I know of a lot of people that got tickets from our foundation, and I also know a lot of people that either bought the season tickets or got tickets from a ticket company. There are actually a lot of tickets on StubHub and such, and most Longhorn fans don't mind paying $ for a ticket if they really want it. A lot of people are going just because it's a new road game that we may never see again. But then there are people that don't want to travel that far for a OOC game that "isn't good enough for them."

The Texas fans that you'll see up there will be great fans that want to have a good time. We like to drink, so feel free to offer us a beer when you see us :D Hope a lot of you can come down to Austin next year, cause you'll see a great city, great stadium, and some of the most hospitable fans around. Good luck this season and see you guys in a few weeks.

PS: try to keep the "Texass," "Longwhorns" comments down, and don't do the Horns Down unless you want us to think your on the level of ou fans. ha
