Locksley & NM woes continue...

Interesting read from ESPN. Supposedly, the WR coach (JB Gerald) that was "struck" by HC Locksley has offered "continued media silence" if they (New Mexico) pays him $500,000.00. Kind of black-mailish if you ask me. Though, I do hope NM keeps Locksley in place forever, there is a guaranteed W every year!

New Mexico has handled this terribly and 'lied' a bit on the $500,000. settlement offer. The UNM President and AD are behaving like inept idiots. This is the second cover-up for Locksley that UNM has gone through, stupidly, in less than a year. It is an embarrassment for the school and the conference that UNM has handled this so poorly. I feel for UNM students, Alumni, and players. It wasn't 'extortion' on the victim's part, it was 'distortion' on UNM's part.

I would not be surprised if UNM fired him and his entire staff less than 24 hours after their last game. Sure they are going to lose a bunch on the contract, but they'll lose more than that over the next 3 or 4 years of losing. UNM is not a bare cupboard. This coach has completely destroyed their program. They will have an extremely hard time recruiting with him there.

I thought about that too. But if NM had intentions (any intentions) of firing Locksley, they could have done so, without any exchange of $$, when he bitch slapped the WR coach. That was a breach of his contract, and from what I understand, they could have shown him the road without any further financial loss/buyout. NM could also have started a more public search, jumping on things quicker, to get somebody better in (for recruiting, etc.).

Now, because they didn't react, I think they face a huge buyout, and years of horrible football regardless.

But the question remains.. was it in the contract specifically that he could not bitchslap the coach? If not, then the WR coach may have been fair game. :thumb:

haha.. god it's been a long week.
