George McCarty, should forever be known as the AD that set UW back 20+ years and have his name put in the Cowboy Hall of Shame! The guy came from UTEP, and basically was at Wyoming to retire. He was only interested in having balanced budgets. The improvement in facilities, coaching salaries and other areas were not of concern to him, the only concern was keeping UW's budget balanced. Wyoming came out years after him, from what I call the "Cowboy Dark Ages" and frankly we are still feeling the effects of his inaction and lack of foresight.

I don't claim to have all of the answers, but I wonder if sometimes things like these come as mandates from higher up. Just looking at the time McCarty was here, it appears it was pretty much entirely under one UW president (which I'm just reading now was a CSU grad). Possible McCarty was told just to balance the budget.

A little of both. LOL Always wondered who had been the AD at UW over the years. First one I knew of was Paul Roach.

Plus, it's the offseason...the boring period of the year.
