Keep in mind I was talking about Computers not consoles. We know consoles have a lot of access they haven't in the past and Roku/Apple TV etc those connect directly to your TV so I'm not counting those. What I'm counting with my guess is the amount of people that use a computer and the amount that also connect that computer to the TV.

What is the point of that statistic???

I know how to connect my computer/tablet to my TV (and always do when I am streaming sports content off the internet), but I would never do that to stream netflix when I can already stream it through both my Playstation and Roku with much less hassle and in 1080p HD.

According to Netflix's statistics, 50% use a console to stream Netflix thru their TV; therefore, the majority of Netflix users do not sit at their computer watching Netflix.

I just don't buy that, The A/V room for the AA has zero bearing on the Football field. Unless the Media room is inside the AA which is just absurd. I would really think there would be a media & broadcasting room somewhere at the UW and the AA/War would just be locations that you could film from.

Here's a response I got from Kevin McKinney about why the spring game was not streamed.

Happy to help you on this one. We absolutely would have loved to stream our Spring Game last Saturday. Short answer, it wasn’t possible due to construction in the Double A. The football stadium and basketball arena are both being wired into one new control room. That room is under construction and will be housed in the Arena-Auditorium when the renovations are completed. Because of this construction the old camera lines have been pulled out of War Memorial Stadium. The new, high definition, fiber lines aren’t connected to anything yet. We are definitely planning to stream next year’s spring game when all of the construction is completed. I hope that helps with the enigma. It was out of our control for this year only because of the construction.

I read an article on this topic and it said that a little over 50% of those over 30 watched at least 1 show/movie/etc. via internet streaming per week. Below 30, the percentage increased to nearly 70%.

Definitely the wave of the future if costs don't skyrocket due to the new policies.

Seems silly to build a control room inside of the AA but at least they explained it to someone. However now we all expect future games to be streamed so I hope they fall in line with that.

So you want the MWC or UW to contract with Netflix to catalog athletics so you can watch them later? Because Netflix is probably never going to stream live if they did they would most likely lose all of their TV content.

There is a better avenue out there, It's probably Amazon at least they live stream stuff. I just don't think anyone in the MWC head office has any drive to accomplish anything outside of partnering with National Networks but I hope i'm wrong.

No, as I said above, I'm with you on doubting Netflix for streaming live. I was more using them as an example of that type of media. When the NFL was working on TV negotiations for Thursday night games, they floated the idea of Netflix. That was probably more a play to try to get more out of the networks (thought I think it ended up on NFL network anyway), but I think I remember Netflix saying no to streaming live sporting events.

You might be right with Amazon or as someone suggested maybe a WYO Athletics app available via Google Play or as a channel on Roku? Bottom line, I think it would be worth the investment as a University to work on getting a channel streamed to one of these more "mainstream" venues. That would allow us to stream lots of events for a wide range of sports and even scholastics. Live stream graduations for all the student's families.

Again, I'm no marketer or media guru, but it seems like a worthy investment.

I think it would be a great investment, I don't think the University would do it I think it would be up to the conference. I would love to see something that isn't just up to National Television.

I'm definitely checking out the MW app this Fall. I missed lots of bball games because I didn't know about it.

I'm assuming MT and FA game will be on there if Root doesn't pick them up.

I'm surprised that they do all of our home events for every sport. That is great. Hopefully, the platform distribution gets better.

What Wyoming needs to be is the first to provide live, in-game content (replays, analysis, etc.) to people attending the games. Dress it up with in-seat F&B ordering and delivery (plus beer sales) and you've got a real formula for boosting attendance and revenue...

Anyway, moving on, someone mentioned bus tours- it's something a network of business minds needs to put together to make it work. Profit and loss on a city-by-city basis doesn't pencil out. Several state-wide businesses though, with the right promotional/ ad partners could make it work...

Thing is though, better PUBlic venues that carry the game go a long way- it becomes a chicken and egg argument. Personally, I see more people less interested in spending money to attend a live sports event than fewer people willing to spend money while comfortably watching televised sports events

People will be in line to buy a subscription to watch Wyo athletics! I mean why wouldn't they? Why watch the SEC on CBS or the Pac12 on ESPN or the Big10 on ABC when you can watch WYOMING ON NETFLIX!

I would. I cut the cord 2 years ago, and see about 5 college football games a year on TV. I have no interest in watching SEC or PAC-12 football. I'd pay $15 or $20 per game to the Wyoming AD for football and/or men's basketball games in HD streaming. I'm pay $500 to NBC if they'd let me stream the Olympics in HD.

Umm... you can watch the olympics in HD (at least what is broadcast to the public on NBC) for free currently. Hell the HD signal that you can get through an antenna is better than any cable company can provide because the signal is not compressed.

What's basic cable cost nowadays? $35 a month for Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC? You'd rather spend $500 bucks to watch the Olympics on 1 channel for 2 weeks than pay $420 for a years worth of all 4 (including the Olympics)?

For all of you that have cut cable I can only suggest taking a hard look at XBMC and the Mashup plugin. There is no easier way to get all your cable shows 1-2 hours after they air every week and never have to pay for any of them.

I don't have mashup but have projectfreetv and icefilms among others that work really well. Is mashup different? I haven't cut the cord but just like to have all the options. I probably could do it but not willing to pull the trigger yet.

Honestly, the only reason cable companies stay in business is because of the monopoly on the wired internet. The simple reason I have cable (with no need for it at all) is because I pay an extra $15/month for cable channels than I would pay for internet alone.

Every year the special "promo" is about up, I call and let them know that I won't be renewing because I like the picture that comes through my roof mounted antenna better. After that, they always offer the same deal that I have been getting and so for $15/month it is worth it to me.

Mashup puts them all in one place. It's a great app for XBMC. I've still got DirecTV at home, but I use XBMC for all of the stuff I can't find on demand.
