With the new playoff system coming up, it looks like there will be far fewer bowl games on New Years Eve and Day so as not to overlap the bigger games.

Also it points out that there will be 39 bowl games next year. With 1 being the Championship, that leaves 76 openings with 122 teams to fill them (125 total, UNLV, Idaho, and Penn State will be ineligible). So if you miss a bowl game, you are in the bottom 37 percentile of D1 FBS football.
