Legalize Gambling and Sports Gambling in Wyo....

I think Wyo should look into this. I know the people of Wyoming are ultra conservative people wouldn't go for it, but I see no negatives. It would generate money for the state and I think it would give the Laramie area a population boost as well. I think outside of Laramie by Woodslanding or Centennial would be perfect spots. I think Blackhawk/Central City area in good places to go in Colorado. I have never been to Deadwood, but I heard its pretty cool. I really think this would work, but I doubt this would ever happen. I think the people of Wyo should start to be a little more ambitious. Lets do this. :D

Why not legalize weed and prostitution while are at it. Couldn't hurt with recruiting.

Illegal prostitution and weed are more destructive to society than legalized versions.

Fat chance. We are governed by the kind of "conservatives" who believe personal freedom of that kind is frightening and morally pernicious. They love freedom, though....absolutely love it to death.

Having lived in LV for most of two decades, I can tell you that wide open gambling- especially video poker machines and slots, comes at a pretty high cost. LV is one of the worst places to live in the country, especially if you want to raise a family. Crime is soaring, corruption is rampant, the schools are the worst in the country (mostly because parents teach their kids that it's okay if they don't do well in school because they can always get a job as a bartender. cocktail waitress, dealer, valet, or stripper), drug use is almost commonplace.

That being said, I believe a very controlled, rational approach to certain forms of gaming, based on county populations (kind of like how Nevada codifies which counties can host brothels) isn't a bad idea- low denomination gambling machines and low-limit table games with restrictions on hours of operation and number of games permitted per jurisdiction, etc.

Unfortunately, the form of gambling that would most benefit Wyoming, with the lowest potential social cost, is sports gambling, and it's proscribed by federal law with certain jurisdictions (such as all of Nevada) grandfathered in. In order for Wyoming to legalize sports gambling (which would result in hundreds of millions in revenue flowing in from Colorado and Utah alone), federal law would have to be changed.

Ah, I do remember that little nugget Nevada was able to carve away for themselves.

You haven't been to Oklahoma lately? Have ya?

$900 million in hole
Nobody and I do mean NOBODY in Oklahoma likes the Governor (Mary Fallin)
Public schools are ranked dead last in the country even behind piss poor educated Mississippi

No wonder more and more kids are being home schooled here now.

Is home schooling big anywhere else? Like Wyoming or Colorado?

I know a lot of people home schooling in Colorado, mostly because they don't want their kids to be "indoctrinated" with concepts like evolution.

One of them is a Wisconsin dude who believes in every conspiracy theory out there (UN is setting up to take over the U.S., Obama is a Muslim controlled by the Illuminati, Clinton is also controlled by the Illuminati), and he's started talking about how the election is rigged and how there will need to be an armed revolution if/when Clinton wins. I swear the guy seemed sane and mostly regular conservative just a couple of years ago. Now I'm freaking scared of him.

Yeah...we wouldn't want our kids to learn the real truth about ourselves on this planet. I'm Atheist so...sadly I have to keep my big mouth shut around my religious friends.

And thinks 9/11 was an inside job. The only conspiracy theories I go for are...LBJ had JFK killed AND RFK had Marilyn Monroe killed to keep her quiet.

Can't wait for this election to end!

I did not know sports gambling was prohibited by federal law. I thought it was up to the state. I just think that like blackhawk/central city the people of wyoming would find a way to maintain a nice little well run spot. That place is a nice place, clean and nowhere near like vegas. I just think that the state government and local city governments need be more open to what can produce revenue without overreacting on what it might do to the quality of life. You either progress or regress, there is no staying the same.

It would have to be on the I-80 corridor. The amount of traffic on that road dwarfs the prospective amount of patrons in any other part of the state. Maybe Rawlins? It's not like you could make Rawlins suck any more than it already does right?

I'd like to see a hotel/casino resort at the corner of i80 and i25 with a indoor water park. I think it would do very well.

Because kids and casinos worked out so well for Las Vegas...

There is a large difference between building a small family friendly resort that has gambling vs. building a city for gambling and a lot of other vice's.

I am suggesting something like place: http://www.sevenclanscasino.com/thief-river-falls/thief-river-falls-home

It would give parents a place to have fun and a place for kids to enjoy themselves during the long winter.
