Anyone else find it odd we are signing a running back out of North Carolina with 1 year of eligibility remaining? What kind of a sign does this send to Waylee?

Note - he played DB for North Carolina last year but was formerly their RB and is signed as an RB.

It's odd. Maybe this says that McNeely is done and we need a solid 1-2 punch to keep Waylee upright throughout the year.

If last year taught us anything it is you can never have too much depth at running back

I'm guessing the injuries that have plagued our RB room over the past couple years have something to do with it. McNeeley didn't play at all last year after a torn ACL. We had to move Sam Scott to RB because of defections and injuries in 22. Waylee missed 3 full games and most of 2 more due to injuries, which mostly occurred due to him being overused. DQ James got booted off the team after week 4 last year.

We run the ball enough that we need to have at least 3 backs that could be feature backs at all times.

You can if it creates hard feelings and departures. Dont get me wrong, I’m delighted with the signing but concerned that Waylee could look elsewhere in April.

I’d say Bohl’s offense this to be very true. Sawvel came out and said his first priority was for a balanced offense.

That’s what I’m wondering. It would make more sense under that scenario.

According to the 247 site we signed our second best prospect ever - Bleyne Bryant. Offers from CSU, Miami (OH) and Ball State

If DQ hadn’t been kicked off, then I’d agree. As of right now, we have McNeely and Waylee. We need a 3rd.

If our allegedly 2nd best prospect ever only has MAC and MWC offers, I’d question that analysis.

Jamari Farrell will be a senior next year. Sam Scott will be a junior next year. These guys are both viable.

We struggled running the ball with Farrell and Scott when Waylee was out this year. They were good situational guys, but neither was effective as a lead back. In every game last season that Waylee was out or limited Peasley was the leading rusher. We need another back that can be effective as the bell cow if Waylee can't go. McNeeley may be that guy, but he's had so many injuries I don't think we can rely solely on him.

I wonder how many of the freshmen recruits were told they would be playing in the Pac-# by their junior year?

I respectfully disagree. Sam could be good in some spots but if you think they're replacements for McNeely and Waylee, then there's not much to argue about since we're on different planets.
