I did too, and to be honest with you, I'm slightly disappointed that we don't have separation in the league standings. Not by much, but we have underperformed my expectations.

+1

People laughed me when I said we SHOULD go undefeated in OOC play.

Turns out we had one of the EASIEST OOC schedules in the country, are leading a very solid MWC and STILL lost 2 ooc games.

Year 4 of Shyatt, LNJ as a senior. I expected to be this high up in the standings. I expect the championship now.

Sure I might be a little disappointed with where we are right now, but not terribly upset. Not like year 4 or 5 of DC.
We are tied for first right now, but a win Wednesday will put this teams record on track with what I wanted and hoped for.

...except Barnes played exactly 4 minutes at Air Force when we were already down 3 bigs.

Why not red shirt him if he is NEVER going to play?

What makes you think he'd get anymore time against SDSU?

WW

Because SDSU doesn't run a quirky offense that would confuse a freshman who 18 hours before the game didn't think he'd have to see the floor. We're gonna zone the shit out of SDSU because they can't shoot - from the field or the FT line. Barnes is a big body that will be able to clog the paint and give up fouls. If we only travel with 3 big men in Barnes, Cooke, and Herndon, this game is much better suited for Barnes to get some good minutes than a game against a quirky AF team for which Barnes wasn't a factor in the gameplan and preparation.

Also, Shyatt said publicly that he encouraged Barnes to redshirt this year, but he didn't want to. Those choices are left up to the players.

Red-shirting isn't really up to the players. Being a whiny bitch and transferring because of it is though.

There might be some cases where the kid could get red-shirted and has the option, but I bet those are rare.
All it takes to red-shirt is to never put the kid in the game. That's ALL on the coach.

That's not how Shyatt publicly describes his redshirting philosophy. He and the coaches advise the player on whether or not they believe it would be in the team's and player's best interest to redshirt. At that point, the player and his family decide what they want to do. Pull up the radio archive of Shyatt's postgame comments from, I believe, the UNC game. He describes this specifically about Jonathan Barnes, and indicates that JB and his family decided not to redshirt.

Yes, but the point the Beav is trying to make is...the kid doesn't want to redshirt, that's all fine and dandy, but if Shyatt doesn't play him...TADA! Redshirt season. Kid has input, but it's up to coach who actually gets to play.

You can also not play a single minute and still not be counted as a redshirt.

That's why it's up to the student-athlete. Sometimes, kids just want to get done with their college career in 4 years. Not 5...4.

*sigh* No, you can't...that's not how it works.

If you don't play a single minute, then you have not used a year of eligibility. Therefore, you are now a sophomore with 4 years of eligibility (I.E. Redshirt freshman). Whether it says sophomore or RFr. In the program, it doesn't matter, you still have 4 years of eligibility...whether you use all 4 years is up to you.

If they get 5 yrs paid for and graduate in 4, they can get a free year in grad school, so there is an advantage to the academically motivated.

And this is something that you believe modern day athletes are allowed to do?
Have you been living under a rock?

Apparently. I thought the norm was go get a 2.0 in communications, come a semester or 2 short of graduation, leave the school when your sr year season is done then wonder why post-college life isn't as good as it once seemed.

Many do this. Some don't.

just some news from SportsZone on KFBC outta Cheyenne, they are reporting that their sources stated, Larry's still running a fever of 101 and it's looking like he probably won't be back until the Fresno St game on Feb. 25, sorry just what I've heard from them

If we can finish that stretch including the Air Force game 2-2 we will be ok but not in great shape and unlikely to be in MWC Title contention. However it's more realistic we finish 1-3. Same shit different year it's like you can basically live by February biting us in the ass.

hallejullah man, once the groundhog comes outta his hole that's UW's gremlins cue to come outta hibernation and bite us like always, and we just have to accept mediocrity, hogwash....lol
