Because quite often on here we’ve only said the negative, I believe kudos should be given to the offensive coaching staff for making quite the transformation in offensive schemes mid season.
Last season, when Allen went out, I was screaming at the top of my lungs to put Conway at QB and run a read-option type offense and to give the team a chance to move the ball on offense. That didn’t happen and we know the results.
This year, the staff appears to have admitted that they were wrong given our personnel and made some drastic changes mid-season. This doesn’t happen all that much at the D1 level. This new read-option based offense has quite frankly simplified the blocking schemes giving the line the chance to succeed and forcing defenses to not sell out on the running back. Then opening up the lanes for a big pass play. Who cares if it isn’t a ‘traditional’ NFL offense, it takes advantage of the personnel we have and gives the team a chance to succeed. So good job coaching staff in FINALLY swallowing your pride and making the necessary changes.
