Kongo suspended one game

Although I feel a flag is much more appropriate than a suspension, every video and every picture of every angle shows that Kongo led with the crown of his helmet, the photo above from behind shows his entire back and you can't even see his head, that means it is bent forward (crown first).

It doesn't matter if the runner was defenseless and it doesn't matter that he was engaging a blocker. Crown of the helmet is not legal and it is dangerous, possibly even more so for the guy doing it than the runner.

Pretty sure he was knocked unconscious, which means AFA went against all things concussion by putting him back in.
 
When the guy leaves his feet like that and is lunging forward like that......That's not targeting when it is your guy doing the hit, but if the guy leaping like that was a Toledo guy and the guy getting hit was B-Smith, we would be saying something different.

Whose side are you on beaver? :lol: Last year you defended the play when Brett got hit by Robinson from Toledo, saying it was a normal defensive play that wasn't dirty. Now you are saying the Kankolongo hit was targeting (dirty)? I think Nehemie's hit was less dirty than the Toledo hit(my opinion), but maybe your point is that in the targeting rule Nehemie's hit is illegal? But as you say no player on D would say that was a illegal(dirty) hit.

The safety came up to Luke and apologized and said he didn't mean to hit Smith late and Ruff said that as a safety he would have done the same exact thing. And so would anybody on the D.
So if you are still bitching about the Toledo guy hitting Brett Smith maybe football isn't your sport. Get the hell over it. It happened. We can't change anything about it. If the toledo safety is a dirty player then so is everyone else that plays D in football. Sure maybe offensive players would say the toledo guy is dirty but there is no d player that would say that.

This 100%. The rule of leading with the crown is to protect the tackler just as much if not MORE than the tacklee. Again, like he said doesn't matter what he was doing, all that matter is that he hit another player with the crown of his helmet, it's a penalty if he hits him in the head, arm, torso, leg, etc. Don't think Kongo did it intentional, just unfortunate the way it happened. And yes, I'm shocked that the player returned to the game, not only should he have not played again, he should have probably been taken to the hospital immediately.
 
Not to mention the kickoff is the most dangerous play in football due to the speed players pick up before the collision, going with the crown of your helmet on a kickoff is how Kevin Everett and Eric LaGrande broke their necks.

I certainly won't argue with the MWC on this because what happens in these two videos shouldn't happen to anybody. Ever. Don't say "it's football, it happens" because it's 100% preventable.
 
He led with his shoulder to take out the blocker and his helmet hit the returner who did not figure his blocker would be ran through. Eh, suspension, borderline hit, but in slow mo I saw his shoulder engage the blocker and bodies fly where they may afterwards. In my opinion if the return man avoids the collision there is no penalty just a hellacious hit to take out a blocker like the old wedge busters, and the return guy has to regain momentum in a new direction and gets tackled in the same spot anyway. Good aggressive football by Kongo, but keep your head up a bit, even if the shoulder hit first his head was tucked down a little bit which is dangerous.
 
I don't know the blindside hit you're mentioning. Calhoun/AFA Medical Staff putting the kid back in is inexcusable in my eyes.

And yeah fullback, kongo didn't intentionally do anything. Just a risky way to do things. If the MWC let it slide, they'd be sending the message that it's ok to lead with your crown as long as there are other variables involved and it's not.

If in a future game, if Kongo does the exact same thing but instead of hitting the other player in the head, he ends up hitting him square in the chest with no give, we could be having a discussion about his recovery once he's released from the hospital and if he'll regain movement or not.

I'll say it! It's sad to see the game I love and played for 20+ years getting pussified like this. Those of us who step on the field accept the risks and I'm fine with that. Football as we know it will no longer be football in years to come.

If you dont want helmet to helmet contact. TAKE OFF THE HELMETS
 
So, does this mean, since the officials are officially being second-guessed by others and calls being made, we will soon see outcomes reversed upon post-game review?

Regardless of the very arguable nature of the play and the hit, it's very troublesome that this player's getting suspended for something that wasn't even penalized by the officials on the field.
 
Interesting that DC sent in (to the MWC dicks) 2 clips of his players being hit by AFA douches (helmet to helmet).

I saw one (out of the corner of my eye) when #55 for AFA went after Kongo on the very next kick off. I figured that was going to happen, and should have paid attention closer. What a dick move, but expected from the fine, upstanding AFA.

I'm fine with players suspended after the game if the refs miss something - but it should never change the outcome of the game. If a player throws a punch or stomps on a player and isn't caught by any refs, but IS caught on camera, I'm perfectly happy to see a suspension handed out.



As for the play where a Wyoming player was targeted, I think it was when our player went in for a tackle when a blocker lit him up big time as he never saw it coming. I thought it was fine, as it looked like he was hit shoulder to shoulder (and our player got up and ran to the sideline after). Another angle might have shown it differently, though.
 
If we're going to start overriding the officials and changing the outcome of games, then I want the '07 game against AFA overturned. The ground caused Demo's fumble and I'm still mad about that! It was at least a 9 point turnaround in an 8 point game.
 
It doesn't make them any better either, Mint. Kongo hasn't exactly been an integral piece in our lineup since he's been here. In fact, this hit is the first time I've heard his name since he signed his letter of intent.
 
ok finally saw the play again on You Tube, and I do remember seeing it live on ESPNU, i think they are more reacting to the way his hands went up and hit him, but imo it truly wasn't that bad, I just think the MWC needed to take a bit of our thunder after that shellacking. We'll be fine, and hoping they continue to play with that intensity and energy from here on out. NOV 9 is looming large with Fresno St. we need to pack the War!!!!
