Dude's been practicing with the #1s for the first three practices. This kid must be good.. and god knows he had to work to get to Laramie. Sounds like a great story in the making.

wow you must have posted this the same time I posted mine. For sure man! Love the story about the bus ride and working to pay for the ticket. He's already taking a lot of the reps at #1. He's proving to be a hard worker on the field as well. Hopefully the knee is sound.

I trust DC to put the best guy out there, but... AA had a great season, ended even better, and Kongo was out all of spring ball, I think should AA should be #1 until at least the first or second scrimmage. If this guy is better than the AA we will definately have a great one-two punch.

Gag's tweeted that freshman linebacker Oliver Schober will be handling kickoffs. Very interesting to say the least.

I just saw Gags tweet. That's crazy.

The kid has legitimate speed and athleticism at 240 pounds. He's a human wrecking ball and he arrives quick. With that kind of size and speed he has to have strong legs.

If he can blast it out of the end zone, or at least into it, we'll be a lot better football team.

The momentum in the Texas game swung on one play last year. It was the opening kick of the second half. If we get a touch back, their offense has to drive 80 yards against our D and a fired up crowd. Instead, we kicked to the ten and they ended up in our territory. The crowd disappeared and Texas went in to score quickly and the rut was on.

Hopefully Shober can put the ball in the end zone, but I like the fact that he's going to covering kicks as well.

I can't wait to see him play.

well, the guy is german which means he probably played soccer forever. Coach said he was kicking them 6 yds deep in the endzone. At least i thought that's what he said during the press conference. Couldn't hear too well.

Where do you guys think Schober ends up playing this year? His size makes him ideal for MLB, but Hendricks is too good to be riding the bench. I also think Ghalli Muhammad is too good to not be starting as well. Thus, I think the most likely scenario is that either Hendricks or Schober gets the nod at the other OLB position which was between Keith Lewis and Devyn Harris in the spring. Any insight into whether Schober or Hendricks is faster/quicker? I think that will be the guy that gets moved to OLB.

I think it comes down to how fast schober is. Obviously were are going with speed for our outsidse backers so we have better pass coverage. I doubt his speed is better than Muhamads and I doubt its better than Lewis and Harris'. That means he will probably back up hendricks. I believe he could be a combo DE/LB. At 240lbs he is not that much smaller than knapton and Biezuns and it sounds like he speed by be better than theirs. Could be a tommy blake/ jerry hughes type of speed pass rusher.

Pretty good find if he can kick it into the endzone, we've been missing that for a while.

I was thinking the same thing.....well.....I bet Schober can kick a football over that mountain!

I will bet Schober gets the start at MLB. I'm sorry but I'm just not impressed by any of Glenn's recruits. Schober looks like he can make plays in the backfield and cover the pass. Something Hendricks couldn't do.

I really doubt Schober beats out Hendricks. Hendricks had 116 tackles in only eleven games, and in the 4-3 scheme he will be in less one on one pass coverage. (The outside spots go more into pass coverage). That being said I do believe alot of the LB's have been overated and were awful in pass coverage. I think putting knapton at DE will make him a higher quality player and the switch to the 4-3 will make the biggest difference in this years team.

I hope you've been to all 3 practices, because otherwise your basing this off of what - a few tweets. I am not going to argue the quality of Glenn's recruits but you do realize Hendricks is a 2010 pre-season 1st team pick by the conference right?

I too am excited by Schober and what I am reading. It sounds like he'll see plenty of field time, but BH had OVER 100 tackles last year - just let that marinate for a minute!

not only did he have a 116 tackles that was in 11 games. He had 36 solo tackles which was the most of any uw linebackers. (Obviously defensive backs will get more solo than LB). BH is a top of the conference LB. I expect Ghalil M. to join him as an all league perfomer this year.

My bold prediction of the year is that Muhamad earns conference d player of the year!

I agree with everything being said. Hendricks is a damn good football player, and he deserves to be a starter. I would have no problem saying he is probably one of the top 5 linebackers in the MWC. I personally believe Knapton was overrated as a MLB and am very excited about the switch to DE. I think that is the position that suits him the best. I think we will probably see a roation of Schober/Lewis/Harris at one OLB position based upon the particular package the opponent has on the field and the down and distance. Lewis is probably best at pass coverage while I would assume Schober would be the best run stopper with his size. This defense is looking damn good. Please let the offense show signs of life... :D

The problem I see, is that I haven't heard much about the DL. I would be happier if one of the JC DL guys was getting as much pub as Schober because it looks like we have plenty of depth at LB. Anyone hear or see how BJ and Kurt are doing? Also, I'm curious about Sonny and Riley. Redshirt them? We have 4 RS freshman on the DL this year including two from Wyoming.

It pretty much looks like we are stacked at LB and even in the secondary. The interior for the defensive line is where I'm worried.

The 2 JC transfers, from what I've heard, are still adjusting to the altitude. It does take a few weeks to get used to it.

It would be nice if one of the JC guys at DT could contribute immediately. However, JC guys are notorious for needing some time to adjust when they transfer into a D1 football program. I do think that Stover and Purcell are capable of doing a good job in the middle for us, but Stover has shown an inability to stay healthy, and they are inevitably going to need some rests from time to time. I really like the film I have seen of Taufa'asau. I think he is a perfect fit for a 4-3 DT...good size with good agility. Sumter would be a great guy to play noseguard if we were still running a 3-4, but he isn't that great of a fit in a 4-3 scheme. He will be useful in obvious running situations though. I wouldn't worry too much until we get later into fall camp. I fully expect Taufa'asau to develop into a consistent contributor at DT this season.
