It took Bowden Wyatt a couple years before he turned Wyoming into a powerhouse. First few years, got a few wins, but nothing much. Then in 1949 posted a 9-1 season record and set a still standing NCAA record of 103 points in a game. The following year, the Pokes went undefeated, went to and won their first bowl game (1951 Gator Bowl) and finished ranked #12 in the nation.

So it takes time for something good to happen. And losses like these frustrate me just as much as any of you, but we need to be patient and see what comes of this.

Things have changed a bit since the 1940's. Not really the same college football world it was back then. This is becoming a bad trend of complete and utter non-competitive performances where the team doesn't even show up.

I was pointing out that it takes time in order to build a top 25 team. Hell, it took Utah 100 years to get where they are. Our problem began 10 years ago and when DC came in, there wasn't too much to work with. Still isn't except for a bunch of underclassmen and a handful of upper classmen that are trying their best to lead the team.

that was ugly. really, really, ugly. Tackling still abysmal, and so is blocking. Bottom line they have to play better. They have 9 more games to figure it out.

The only thing that has changed in college football is that no one has patience to wait anymore. They want wins right now! Frank Beamer took six years before he turned VT into a powerhouse (and I'm not talking about this year.) His whole career. Remember what Rocky Long did at New Mexico? It took him 5 long years before he got them to a bowl and consistent winning seasons. Give it time and learn patience and humility. Don't be a bandwagon fan who cheers when they win and want's nothing to do with them and complains when they lose.
Figure this in the equation When I coached I was more a fan of my team than most anybody who sat their butts in the stands. And when we lost I was frustrated, but I still had to lead my team. And I had to listen to everybody complain. DC knows what's going on he will continue to lead his team. And if you believe in your coach quit complaining and keep rallying around the team. It amazes me that UNM is the worst team in the nation yet they are still averaging 25,000 fans a game.
And for those of you who think we regressed, I said it last night and I'll say it again. When I coached at Kemmerer we were good (8-2) but we were class 2. Imagine if we played Natrona or Gillette (two class 4 top schools in the state) in back to back weeks. I have to be honest we would play as tough as we could but we would probably lose and lose badly. But does that mean my team regressed? Not really, everyone would just say we were playing out of our league. It's kind of the same thing with Wyoming's Schedule. They are good, but they are not elite. So we just played two teams in back to back weeks that were out of our league. But the good thing is you learn from these games and when they come about again, you know better ways to have a chance at winning. Give them credit, at least they play tough teams and don't go play a bunch of cupcakes.

I'm sorry, but if you really believe this, you're living in a hole. Did you not see what happened this summer? College football is now a game of who has the most money, who has the most potential viewers, and who has the best teams RIGHT NOW!

Alabama pays their coach $4M/year and probably spends 10x as much as we do on assistants and recruiting budgets. Look what they have to show for it - an MNC. I'm not saying that DC isn't the right guy or that we need to pay him more (we will if he turns us into a contender), but that shows the commitment AL has in their product.

We can't control viewers, and probably can't afford to spend much more, but we better stop getting kicked square in the nuts on national TV against teams that are elite. I am not saying I expected our 'Boys to win but I sure hoped we would and expected us to put up a fight. What they showed us was that they weren't ready and/or were extremely outmatched - neither bodes well for the Pokes and the next 10 years of CFB changes. The current wac 6 are, in my opinion, doomed and we could be too if we don't at least start to show up against top 25 teams.

Don't mean to be so negative but last night was tough to stomach - missed opportunity to show some mettle :brick:

Population Albuquerque 869684 june 2010, population Laramie 28000, population wyoming 525000. UNM enrollment 25000, UW enrollment 10000.. what's so amazing?

HiCountryCowboy. I really don't know if you actually read what I wrote, because you disagreed only to repeat and agree with what I stated. No one has patience, they want it now. Don't know what you're figuring here, but you sure aren't making sense.
And Albuquerque has always had over a half a million people and an enrollment of over 20,000 but, back in the 80's and 90's they averaged only 13 to 19k a game. So, not seeing what population has to do with anything. I mean we're Wyoming pop 525k and enrollment of 13k and have been averaging 24,000 a game so far.

I think most of us who have been following the Pokes for some time can confidently claim to have doctorates in patience. The way I see it, Dimmel = Baccalaureate, Koenning = Masters, Glenn = PhD.

I just don't want anyone to start doing post-doctoral work!

For myself, I think I was one of the last guys on GoWyoGo and the MWC boards to have pulled for Joe Glenn. By no means have I given up on DC or the Pokes. He has fire and he has proven himself at Mizzou. I just get alarmed when I see the poor tackling by the D and the lack of success (success not effort) by the OL. I realize we played one tougher team this year (Boise) but that game with Southern Utah was pretty ugly as well. Calling out poor play doesn't make me a bandwagon fan, just objective. I've followed the Pokes as long as most of you, give my annual scrilla to CJC, and get to as many games as I can. But I'm not blind yet. After three games, we have some big problems that can't simply be chalked up to 'better' competition. I'm not expecting to win championships yet, all I expect in the near term is a competitive squad on the field who won't quit. That is not what I saw in the Boise game.

If we can't discuss it here, is there another forum that is available where I won't get tagged as 'disloyal' for raising my concerns?

fromol, this wasn't a tirade directed at you. I hear you on the patience thing. I got burned on it with Glenn when I should have seen he was more interested in supporting his staff than winning on the field.

I was more talking to the people thinking that DC just had a meltdown or something. There was even some idiot over on the MWC board calling DC a douchebag. All I'm saying is, is in a way, this is kind of like what Bowden Wyatt walked into. A team that had been struggling for years and was on a downward trend with bare cupboards.

However, I am fed up with Marty English. He sucks as a DC. His "keep them in front of us" scheme doesn't work with anyone that has a runningback with some semblance of speed. And he never blitzes. Can we bring back Joe Glenn as a DC? He may have had some crappy offenses, but he did have some damn nice defenses.

And Arroyo. Well, I think he has something wrong in his head. He seems to think that the read option is the only run play we can do.

last year year when the O was struggling, didn't they simplify things a bit, and change the splits on the O-line? Maybe they need to do it again. Its probably not what they want, but it seemed to work better than this.
