I overheard something on a talk show about a possible coaching change and perhaps that Duncan might be looking for other places etc...what's everyone's take on this, he's always been a loyal assistant and i know he's on a recruiting visit in Calif, but will we lose somebody this time this year??? We almost lost Edwards to W KY last year which i feel he got shafted not getting that job, but there will be a time when Scott Duncan may not want to be an assistant and want to try his hand being a well overdue head coach, time will tell just curious what everyone else thinks about this, we all know nothing stays the same forever.

I don't see Duncan leaving to become a head coach. I feel if he wanted to do that he would have by now. He seems to be comfortable in his position. But if he does decide to do that then good for him and he deserves it. Don't know if any of the others will leave. We didn't have a great year to gain notoriety but if they have a good opportunity then congrats and good luck. That being said I hope we can keep the staff together.

contining to groom Jeremy for the hand off when Larry says enough is enough, but imo i'd love to have Duncan as our successor

I think Scott and Larry are pretty close to the same age so I could see them going out together. I think Edwards could be the best coach to take over but think all our assistants are great and could take the reins.

I'd like to see what Edwards could do after Shyatt's done. That's assuming the program can go in the right direction

Internal disruptions can come from a variety of reasons. First of all, unless a person is truly content with their situation there is no good reason why they should not be on the lookout for opportunity to better themselves.

Let's say Coach Edwards is considered an up and coming potential head coach type.

Why would he continue to stick around at UW as a lowly assistant and be part of a perpetual struggle to win 50% of conference games when he could be in the same position at a program that either 1) pays substantially more 2) has better national name recognition or 3) combines 1 & 2 with a consistent winning record?

Usually an assistant as such does not necessarily cause a disruption to team continuity/recruiting if they leave the program, but what if his employment is an under appreciated role in the recruiting process because the coach has his son in a position of taking greater credit for the successes of others. Not saying that is the case as I am no insider. I will say this though - Jeremy has played a major role in scouting big men for UW and until Naughton came along not too many impressive results were seen in the program. If the head job was passed to Jeremy - I am likely to be done with UW basketball as I absolutely see nothing positive.

Will one more year of bottom half finishes finish off the current coaching regime?

Losing does take a toll. Coach Yellow Sweater has had exactly 1 success story results wise. The MWC Tourney in 2015. Otherwise there is no glory for a winning record against a relatively weak OOC and there is a lot of discontent brewing over being somewhat non-competitive in conference play. Winning just 37 out of 84 conference games (.440) in the past 5 years and getting all the way to a 4th place finish as the best result to date does not bring out the fans. The other 4 years are 6th, 8th, 6th and again 8th. So what if some games are kind of close due to the style of play, good coaching is not about LOSING close games frequently, it is about WINNING regardless of the score.

Yes - I am very skeptical that under the Yellow Sweater is the coach that will entice UW fans with a sniff of the promised land of success in conference play where it really matters. Good old Steve McClain would always say it is the games starting in January building up to how you perform in February and finish in March as the games that matter most. No one remembers you went undefeated most years in November. What they remember is what your team is doing around March 15th. And if on March 15th they are doing nothing the season is just another one to forget about.

As much as I am skeptical of Shyatt, I will look forward to seeing if the team progresses next year in such a positive way that the future finally will look like more sun than clouds. I want to feel that buzz of euphoria that I can't wait to see the returning players a year older, stronger and wiser. Another losing MWC season will be like continually ripping the scab off of a wound and pouring salt on it.

good info, good discussion, i think the only way this gets even better, is if we decide we are more of a bball school and pool more of the resources into that program, than our work in progress football program, maybe that'll change too, but changes in the future are needed to be "somewhat" competitive

uh what about Cooke and Nance?

Coach Shyatt is making Lemonade out of lemons, period. Laramie is in the middle of f n nowhere, the only university in a worse location is Creighton, Nebraska. Kids have to fly into Denver and then drive 2 hours to get to Laramie on a great day. There is nothing to do in Laramie and the Football team sucks. Compare our environment to San Diego State, sunny beaches, major airport or even Utah State. If the founding fathers of University of Wyoming would've put the campus near Jackson Hole, we would have a better chance as that's a destination point in Wyoming - yes the airport is still small, but its a great place.

How many people on this Forum are still living in Laramie? Now, think about Papa Shyatt trying to convince coaches and players to come to Laramie. This is a tough job and Shyatt can't use the surroundings, weather, airport (ease of affordable travel for mom and dad) - he doesn't have much to work with in comparison.

Just saying - sometimes we all drink to much Laramie Kool-Aid.

Laramie's a great place and many people would live here if they could find a job. There's no jobs and that's a problem. However, Laramie-ites enjoy a tremendous quality of life. So you can go jump in a lake.

Without question! I would live in Laramie in a second if I could get a badass job there! Think Shyatt would hire me?

I would live in Laramie again in a second. The spring, summer and falls in laramie are amazing. If anything I think we need more Laramie Kool-aid! It always gets voted as one of the best towns to live in and I think there is tons to do there. It's all outdoors but still a lot of fun. :twocents:

I always think the disadvantages for Wyoming are way over stated by outsiders but mostly from our own people. (Fans, coaches, and administrators) I agree Laramie isn't for everyone but I would imagine if pitched right laramie would sound great to a lot of people recruits and their parents included.

Kool-Aid aside, Laramie is considered one of the best college towns in the U.S.. Beats the sh-t out of Provostan, Logan, Waco, Denton...

In case you hadn't noticed, college students are pretty big on the outdoors- stuff Laramie has in spades- biking, climbing, hiking, snowboarding, skiing...

In short, yes, you can do worse than Laramie.
