Just a thought

With the potential of Billy Donovan going to the Oklahoma City Thunder, does this mean that Larry Shyatt may take an interview with Florida if he does leave, I know, i know, Papa Shy has said he loves it here and wants to finish his career here, or does he take a bench job with Billy at OKC. I know none of this may come to fruition, it's just a thought I've been having???? I doubt in a million years that Papa Shy leaves us, but when $$ talks, one has to wonder just a little bit.
Thanks for the rant...lol

I don't think so. He had a pretty cushy job as Assistant HC. Didn't have to recruit, just coach the defense and probably could have easily taken over had he stayed. From everything I have heard, he and the Mrs. (along with his son) are pretty happy here. Plus after saying things like that, I doubt he bolts.

It begins...

Another college job? Nah...

But an NBA bench job...I don't know. I didn't think about that possibility.

I definitely hope this doesn't happen. Assuming it does not, Mr. Goodman's quote regarding Shyatt should be on every one of our recruiting flyers!

I have zero worries about this. Setting aside all of Shyatt's comments about finishing his career here(which I beleive because he is a man of intergrity and seems to be completely genuine about that thought). Has a sitting head coach of a college team ever left to be an assitant on a NBA team? Without feeling the pressure of being fired? I'm sure I could think of one where a coach left to asssistant in the NBA where he got out before he was fired but I can't think of a popular coach leaving for the NBA.

For those that don't believe Shyatt would leave Wyoming...well it happened before. Here's a pretty good article on what Larry said when he made his first appearance as Wyoming's head coach, and then bolted for Clemson after his first year. Believe me, if the NBA comes calling, or Florida, and offers him more money, I doubt like hell he stays. Nothing is forever except dying. Shyatt's said all the right things in the past, and then did the exact opposite. :twocents:

Larry Kryskowiak left Montana (with plenty of job security) to go to the Milwaukee Bucks as a bench assistant.

Completely agree. Plus, I don't think he likes working with big egos.

We're fine.....99.9% sure.

Except for that time he explictly said the only job he would leave for was the head coaching job at Clemson. It just so happened that opened up a year later. He was up front and honest about that.

Lovell Chronicle!!? How did you come across that? My only reason for asking is I knew a guy in college from Lovell and he read the Lovell Chronicle every week. The police blotters were the best

i agree, nothing is set in stone until he says so, which he kinda has, but if he wants a new challenge b4 retiring we'll see, i think he's got it really good in Laramie but $$ talks sometimes, we'll see

I doubt he'd make a lot more than he is soon to be at WYO. I think the highest paid NBA assistants are somewhere around 1 mill/year and many less than Shyatt is making now.

Hard to get data on it because the NBA doesn't advertise the salaries much. If you google it, you can find a little information though.

Burman needs to get Shyatt to 1 mill and bump assistants as well.
