Josh Allen MVP

Lamar is phenominal and it can definitely be argued that he is the most valuable single player to his team in the NFL. I don't think that he's more valuable to his team than Josh is to the Bills or Saquon is to the Eagles, though.

Hate to say it but it looks like Lamar won the MVP award again.

Could next weekend's game decide MVP?
No. The same voters who select the All-Pro team vote on the award. Given the All-Pro vote you have to assume Lamar will get the MVP again. Don't forget last year Prescott had better numbers and Lamar still won. It would interesting to see who all the voters are and how they are chosen.

I still think Josh gets the MVP despite Lamar being named first team All-Pro. Just a gut feeling.

I know it's the same voters for both awards, but in 1987 Elway was named MVP despite Montana being named first team All-Pro.

I’m pulling for Josh but believe it will be Lamar. If you put the statistics right next to each other, and although both are great, Lamar is the clear winner.

Oh well - stats and awards are for losers anyways. Go win the Super Bowl.

Yeah maybe similar to Kurt Warner, who has an awesome movie. Maybe a movie for Josh too!
I don't know if I would go that far. While Josh has a cool story, and one that greatly benefited UW Football, it is nowhere near as improbable a story as Kurt Warner.

This is probably an unpopular take, but a lot of the reason Josh was underrecruited was a direct result of the way he and his family chose to handle his high school career. Josh was approached by several larger high school football programs in the Fresno Valley area about transferring, but he and his family chose to turn those offers down. Josh was also a pretty good baseball player. So in the summer when he could have been attending 7 on 7 camps or QB camps, Josh chose to play baseball instead. These things severely limited his exposure in the recruiting world.

Personally, I think it's pretty cool that he chose to stay at his hometown high school and continued to explore other sporting passions that he had all the way through high school. Every high school kid should be able to do that without having to worry how that might impact their "career". That said, you can't limit your exposure to college football recruiters and then wonder why you aren't being recruited.

I hope your gut is right but I would not bet on it.

Media was really trying to build up Lamar after the loss last weekend. I think they’re just trying to justify their votes after the fact.

JA is much more valuable to Buffalo than Lamar is to Baltimore, but the media has a thing for Lamar.

Sadly, not surprised.

I mean, it's justified. I love Josh and honestly think he is the MVP this year. But Lamar has been the best QB in the league over the last 3-4 years.

Either Josh or Lamar winning the MVP would be about impossible to make the case that they don't "deserve" it. The mvp award means different things to different folks though so you get impassioned debate for one or the other. Unfortunately, it tends to stray into squinting real hard to amplify very small flaws in otherwise great players.

Is there a reason the NFL waits to announce the MVP until the day before the Super Bowl despite it being voted on at the conclusion of the regular season?

It seems odd to me. Typically, when something doesn't make sense, the reason is to make someone somewhere some extra money. Is that the case here too?

I'd love to see Josh win this, but the MVP should be either Mahomes or Barkley.
Because they are in the Super Bowl?

Postseason isn’t taken into account for NFL MVP. Votes were already gathered at the conclusion of the regular season. For some odd reason, the NFL won’t announce the MVP until the day before the Super Bowl despite knowing the winner for weeks prior.

There is an almost 0% chance that either Mahomes or Barkley win the MVP. It will be Lamar or Josh.

Not because they're in the Super Bowl, but because of their value to their team. Take away Mahomes and the Chiefs are very average. Barkley, simply because he's had a gigantic year and also was super valuable to the Eagles success. He would have most likely had the greatest single year rushing of all time, breaking a 40 year old record, had the Eagles played him the last game. His value there was accepting the fact that it was better for the team for him to not play and be ready for the assault he's delivered in the playoff games. They should break this into two awards MVQB and MVP, as generally very team's QB is their most valuable player, simply as they touch the ball every offensive play. The last non-QB that won it, Peterson, did so because he had 2,000+ yards, as did Bakley. While the vote is already in, I imagine that those who vote will have considered both Josh and Lamar's pedestrian post season records in their decision making. Hell, if it was just stats, throw Burrow's name in the ring.
