Josh Adams tracker

No, this isn't another dunk tracker. Instead, I've decided to track Adams' place in Wyo history as we go through the season.

-Josh already has moved into 9th all-time in career assists.
-Not in top 10 yet, but on pace to finish around 5th all-time on scoring list.
-10th all-time in career steals.

Also on pace to play more games in a Pokes uniform than anyone else ever, and potentially most starts ever as well.
And could end up Top 5 in 3pointers made.
And on pace for the 2nd highest single season scoring average in Wyo history.

Statistics are saying he could be a Top 5 player in Pokes history.
The accolades aren't quite there though. Or the championships/Ncaa Tourney wins.

Through 9 games

2015 Season
Points: 221 total, 24.6 ppg
Assists: 38 total, 4.2 apg
Steals: 12 total, 1.3 spg

Career
Points: 1,300
Assists: 309 (9th)
Steals: 112 (10th)
Games: 110
Starts: 101 (tied for 8th)

If Adams plays and starts the final 21 games of the regular season, he would....

-tie Eric Leckner for most games played (131)
-be third all-time in career starts (122), three shy of Brandon Ewing for second.
-at current scoring average, finish with over 1,800 career points, placing him fifth all-time
-at current assist average, finish with roughly 400 assists, placing him sixth
-at steal average, put him around 140 in career and in range of fifth to seventh

Also to note, he moved up from being around #90 in the NCAA seniors rankings on draftexpress to #64 recently. He's being overlooked by draftexpress, but I think NBA teams are going to really like him in the second round.

I heard from a source close to the team the Celtics have taken notice of him.

That would make sense. I think his best comparison to a current pro is Avery Bradley.

Nance was nowhere on mock drafts as well.

Playing pg will help him a lot for the next level

Exactly!

I remember during last season that I posted a comparison between the projection of Nance's draft stock and George Hill's.

I've been getting this feeling that Larry will end up a Spur in the late 1st. I know it seems high, considering no draft sites are putting him in the draft at all right now.

I think it's similar to the type of under-the-radar draft pick the organization made back in 2008 with George Hill. DraftExpress didn't have him in their mocks until a couple weeks before the draft, and he was never projected higher than 44. He went 26th.

That was January 7. Taking out the Spurs mention, I was spot on.

The move up the draft board for Adams is a sign that scouts are paying attention. Hard not to do so when the kid is averaging nearly 25 ppg. Nance had the skill set but lacked the numbers. Adams has the skill set AND the numbers.

Adams will be picked before No. 30 in the 2016 NBA Draft. His biggest negative IMO is his decision-making, which has gotten much better. Still, there will be people who won't consider him a "true" point guard and think he'll be forced to play the position because he's too small for SG.

does he finish above 20ppg this season I'm thinking yes(hopefully)
I think so, it seems like he plays bigger against bigger teams, rather than having the stats dip like you would expect.

Given the improvement in Josh's ball-handling skills, he will be more than capable of playing PG in the NBA. Josh has that 'it' factor to his game. He is more competitive and athletic than anyone else he's faced on the court this year. As good as he played in the MWC tourney last year, he has improved by leaps and bounds since last season. I agree that he will be a first-rounder in 2016. Cal's PG Wallace is a projected top 3 pick. Adams dropped 32 on him and had his way with him off the dribble. No doubt some NBA scouts shifted gears after watching his performance in that loss. Josh is going to surprise some people with how high he goes in the draft and how successful he is in the NBA. We just have to wait and watch....

Wallace is considered an early to mid second round pick right now. Jaylen Brown, the freshman small forward for CAL is considered a top 10 pick. Ivan Rabb, the freshman power forward is considered a first round pick as well.

Apparently, Wallace's draft stock has dropped considerably, but depending on what source you look at, his draft stock still shows him being a first-round prospect. Regardless, the scouts love Wallace and Josh showed he can play with or even dominate the players on their draft boards.

Holmgren tweeted that he got his first career double double tonight. It seems like he would've gotten a few before

Not really, It's a lot harder to get double doubles using steals, assists and blocks than it is with rebounds and Adams doesn't pull down that many rebounds per game.

He's played over 100 games, it seems like luck would have been on his side at least a few of those times to get 10 boards. Our slow pace limits his assist opportunities, though.

I follow the draft pretty close, and Ty Wallace has never been close to Top 3. Maybe in his first year of college, but he's a senior now...
