Jordan Naughton is our best rebounder.

Yeah I was wrong about Naughton. He looked good tonight. He does need more minutes. He was tough on both ends of the floor and looked a lot more calm in the offense.
That swat he had in the first half was super smooth, super clean and kinda out of nowhere. His potential is really high

I wish I could put Jordan's instincts for the game in Barns's body. And give Barnes the ability to catch a ball better. That would be a really good player.

I think I agree with Cosmic that he looks like he might be our best big. I'd love to see him get the start over Barnes, or at least get big minutes.

I don't know if he's the best, but he seems to be developing like you would hope for. Barnes looks like an athlete playing basketball rather than a basketball player.

I mean we obviously don't have much to go off of, but it seems like Al is too inconsistent and reluctant to be a big, and I do think Naughton is at least as good as Barnes right now. With probably a better chance to be a star. :twocents:

One of these days, Barnes will find the right switch to turn on and will become the player we have been waiting for. The good thing is, when Shy subs Naughton & Barnes we don't lose anything.

Well he looked a hell of a lot better then Barnes down low and Barnes has actually been improving a little game to game. Naughton's style of game suites my own tastes over Herndon right now as well. Herndon actually seems kinda of crucial to the team. He does stuff that doesn't get in the stat sheet that keeps the team steady. He did have a rough game too but he's coming along. If Herndon has a good game we probably win most times. Still HELL YES on Naughton being our current best big!
Dude had 8 points 4 boards 1 block...that's exactly the type of stat line I've always wanted from our bigs. Sure I'd like them to have more boards but he would have more boards if we had another big body with rebounding instincts to help him out. I mean I saw a play last night were NMSU got about 3 offensive boards in row and Naughton finally put an end to it barely getting a board. It felt like he was trying to box out 3 different guys in the paint :yikes:

We have two very solid defensive bigs. Barnes had a couple of good fouls. He went up and punished a guy in the lane.

I like the Naughton/Barnes rotation. They let us match up against teams like Cal, NMST, and UNM: teams with length.

I think this team is built for post-season, with a big, physical post.

Its very encouraging news for a young work in progress.

Jordan Naughton had another big night for the Pokes. I like the strength and the attitude down low that he displayed vs. the Rebels tonight. He's got some toughness and will be a huge key to our success in the future.

He's a good option down low. I love what I've seen from him

He got away with a couple of pushes down low tonight, but I like the attitude. He wasn't impressed by the McDonalds All-American. He got mean in the paint, although the stupid pushes will cost us games if he doesn't correct it.

I think that's what distinguishes him from Barnes. He doesn't take any shit down there. He's not afraid to bang. He owns his rebounding space.

I'm not saying Barnes is hopeless. I still think he'll be a great player for us. He just needs to get a little tougher and meaner like Naughton. Banging around with the bigs requires you to be mean.

So happy for Jordan, this is kinda his break out game. He competed against the best big recruit in the nation and out played him, I feel.

Jordan's firery attitude is something we absolutely need right now, we need a rim protector worse than winning tonight's powerball.

Jordan reminds me of Frankenstein. Methodical and tireless, mean streak, and big

He had two O put backs that were huge. He has a better nose for rebounding. He needs more game time

Yep. You can see him learning on the fly as well.

The first time Adams hit him with a beautiful pass in the paint, he wasn't ready. It bounced off his hands for a turnover. The next time Adams went down the lane, he caught the pass and threw down the power slam.

I love Naughton. He's got a very shiny future indeed.

I totally Agree.

Zimm was eating up the boards until Naughton was inserted. After that, Jordan owned his rebounding space, limited Zimm on the glass, and made sure Z had to make free throws. He did all that while scoring a career high.

He definitely out played the McDonald's All-American.

Let's not forget, he's a freshman! He's going to be a monster! He'll have bad games still I'm sure but you can see him owning the paint!

He's got elite rebounding potential as a freshman. He's very good at boxing out already and he has a good sense/eye for where the rebound is coming off the rim. Another thing I think seperates him from Barnes: he trusts his sense/eye for rebounding. If he thinks a board is going to a spot, he goes to that spot. That's the key to being a good rebounder. You have to see where the board is going as soon as it leaves the shooters hand and then get there. Usually Jordan is already there.

Tonight was the first night that I saw him kind of mean down low. I love it. It reminds me of Jon Summers.

I can tell his stamina is getting better. I remember watching Derrick Cooke the first couple of seasons he was at Wyoming, he would run out of gas after about 5 minutes on the floor. Naughton was the same way at first, but he is getting adjusted to the altitude. That was the reason Shyatt wouldn't leave him in for a long time.
