Jones gone

Sucks. I was really excited about him. Had good size for a wing and already played good defense but it didn't appear that anyone was really talking about him and it looked like he was going to redshirt so he must not have fit in as well as others. I think we got people in the next class that will more than make up for his departure.

Well that didn't take long. I wonder if he has to satisfy transfer requirements since he left so early into the season?

It's never good news when a player transfers, but in Jones case, it might be.

I was trying to figure out how he was going to get on the floor with a PF skill set and a SF body. The post is loaded with guys like Cooke, Nance, Sellers(for this season), Herndon, and Naughton/Moemeka are on the way. It would be hard for him to get playing time in the post this year and for the foreseeable future. At wing he's competing with Hankerson, McManeman and Gorski for pt with Eric Turner and Justin James right around the corner. That doesn't look promising for pt either. He can't play 2 guard, so that leaves SF and PF and both of those positions are stacked.

This solves the problem of over-signing by one as well. Now the scholarship numbers work, unless Nance takes a redshirt this year.

I figured one of this years recruits would be leaving and if I had to pick one, it would probably have been Jones.

I trust Shyatt knows what's best for the team and that Jones could see the writing on the wall. It's probably the best decision for both party's.

Jones' real value is on the defensive end. He isn't the most athletic or flashy player, but he has sound fundamentals and will be a good addition to whatever team he lands on.

I wasn't expecting Jones to become an all-MWC level player, but he likely would have become one of the better 6th man and/or role players in the conference under Shyatt. I'll be interested to see where he lands and how things go for him the future.
