Jokes aside...the positives we saw from last game

Hey guys! Yeah I know I've been throwing the team under the bus and just non stop joking about them, but like the sucker Pokes fan I am decided to tune into that game. Hey I even mostly watched it to the end. I'd like a chance to have a positive posting about posting positives from what I saw. You see that there that's the spirit. Now, now wait please hold those jokes and internet jabs for another thread. I am a football layman as well so don't burn me alive.

Here we go

1.Brian Hill looks like a savage pro style running back BEAST! That dude was physical, fast, and putting up YARDAGE. He did this against a team loading up against the run with a QB everyone knew couldn't throw the ball. IMPRESSIVE! It shows heart to do that under the horrible circumstances we've been under too. Is this guy a future pro?

2. If Hill ran like that the O line did something right. This is something to build on. I don't care if the team is cupcake or not we ran on them pretty hard (430 on the ground???) when everyone knew that was what we were gonna try to do. Smash mouth Bohl ball? Maybe it could work if he can recruit and coach up his players in the future. Well we might even have pass protection too if we get a running game going to throw them off.

3.Josh Allen looked solid. For his short stint that looked like a qb with a bright future! Young and can lead already (like Jon Snow right?). Big qualities and just had too much heart over the ole noggin with that run. He wanted those extra yards for the team and probably felt a ton of pressure to win this one after that disaster week one. If he doesn't get hurt we'd have been in that game to the end. Apparently he can throw well too? If that's true from what I hear on this board well then the Pokes offense might not be too far off in the future.

4.The Kids fought till the end. Our team is getting off to really slow starts in these games to put it mildly. I do appreciate that they didn't roll over and give up. Fighting to the end is HUGE in all sports and in life. This is a good quality. They need to keep this hit the books, the weight room, and the field with those traits if they can. Not giving up is gonna be the most critical thing towards having continued improvement this season or really regressing further.

Ok that's what comes off the top of my head. I'm not going into anything negative on this thread from here. What positives did you guys see?

1. Bryan Hill. Enough said
2. Allen is going to be good, REALLY good
3. Wingard can tackle, has a nose for the ball, could be a special player
4. Yarborough showed again why he is one of the best in the game. The dude is a gamer.
5. No quit. I can applaud that the team never gave up. They didn't necessarily do a ton of great things but they never through in the towel. When the skill and experience finally catches up, they will know how to play tough games to the end

Good post Cosmic. I agree with you on all points. Bohl put an emphasis in not recruiting just for talent but recruiting for the intangibles. If these guys are truly here because they want to be here and they truly have those qualities you mentioned, it will pay off at some point.

Their dedication and their heart can't be tested much harder than it already has been. We'll see what happens.

Well I tried. Just had to get something good out there from myself in relation to UW football and a positive thread is a good idea. We need at least one. Plenty of other threads for just about all the range of emotions and opinions out there. I think everything I've seen has been valid too, I feel like I understand where its all coming from good, bad, and ugly. I totally understand you puppet guys. I initially thought you were a little overly negative but honestly you have every right to feel that way too. Being a Pokes fan in anything isn't EZ, hasn't ever been EZ, mostly likely will never be EZ. There's our realistic Cowboy Tough motto :D #darkestbeforethelightthendarkagain

Yeah, Hill was awesome to watch. Wick stepped in to give Hill some breathers, and did OK, but not what he was like last year. Which is a shame really.
Allen, before he went down, was exciting to watch. Too bad is was so short lived.
Smith, while he's not a very good passer, can scramble around pretty good for a big guy.
Yarbrough is still a very good DE.
Wingard at least has a nose for the ball. Could develop into a very good safety.

I saw some good things in the 2nd half. Josh Allen has a rocket arm and looks like the truth. Can't wait for next year. Carl Granderson is damn good and once he fills out will be a stud. The left side of the line with Roullier and Cummings is awesome. Most of our yards came on off-tackle plays to the left side. Wingard is going to be as good as Prosinski, mark my words. Christian Irving nearly ended someone's life with that savage, brutal, clean hit on special teams. Our kickoff and punt coverage teams look 100x better than last year. That's all I got

EMU gave up 28 points to a school named Morgan State last year. I'm taking any offensive out bursts with a grain of salt vs. these guys.

Yeah to be fair their D looked just as shitty as ours and I'm not gonna say EMU was good team...no way. We just could be worse off and that's what this thread is about. That offense could pull itself together enough to at least give our fans something this year.
As far as positive things about our D..sigh...goddamn...well they got that stop late in the game so they didn't give up either. It was like the ONE stop. Do you remember it? Forgot about that stud D lineman too. Yeah he's probably seeing constant double and triple teams. I don't see all those things since I'm rusty with football and other things were really catching my eye. Things that won't make this thread.

I would also add the OC to this. I was absolutely expecting them to stick to the script when Smith started having trouble passing. That was the norm under the last regime. However, in my view, they ran as much as possible without letting them bring all 11 defenders to the line. I was pleasantly surprised by this. It's not much, but I remember all the teeth gnashing when we didn't deviate from the script, based on the tools we had on the field.

Great point. I forgot about him but I was VERY impressed with him. It looks weird watching him make the plays he makes because he is SO under sized. If he can gain another 30-60 pounds, watch out. He will me a monster
