Jim Brandenburg, who guided Wyoming basketball to national prominence during his nine years in Laramie, passed away last weekend at the age of 87. He began his Cowboy coaching career with the 1978-79 season, and continued through the 1986-87 campaign. The UW Hall of Famer coached the Pokes to four Western Athletic Conference titles, three NCAA Tournaments, including the Sweet 16, and a runner-up finish at the 1986 NIT. His career winning percentage at Wyoming is ranked second in school history. Eight of his Cowboy players were selected in the NBA draft. Because of his teams’ success, he was instrumental in the construction of the Arena-Auditorium.
